Hey everyone,
My question is, what is renewal cost when transfer a domain name to a new domain registrar?
For example, my domain A bought at Namecheap price is $27 / year but if I buy it at Godaddy then price is $40 / year
so when I transfer domain name A from Namecheap to Godaddy then next year when I renew the domain, how much will I pay for Godaddy? same price as Namecheap?

No, Price will be changed as per their rates where you are on the time of renewal.

For i.e. domain goes from A point to B point, and at the time of renewal rates of B point will be apply.

In your example when you transferred the domain to Godaddy you already paid $40 and one year was added to your registration.

Every registrar has its own price for their products, just like markets/shops. Once you transfer your domain to them, their price will apply not from your previous registrar.

I would do vice versa, mean I will move domain names from Godaddy to Namecheap because I see that renewal price at Neamcheap is cheaper :)

Hey Maxoq,

Nice question!

Let me remind you of one thing that not all domain registrars are the same. Also, some registrar charges more for a particular domain extension if they are more valuable than the average one. However, most often the registration price for the first year you can find at a much-discounted price from some of the top domain registrars around the world.

And one of the things that differentiate them is how much they charge for the renewal of that domain name. Some can offer this at a lower price while others may charge more. Also remember, in case if you're transferring your domain name A from registrar X to registrar Y, there is nothing to do with the renewal price plan of registrar X Unless registrar Y's renewal price becomes costlier than that of X. So, you can simply compare and if you find registrar Y's renewal price to be lower than X, then go for it saving some money. Regarding your concern for the equivalent price in between the two registrars, it depends on their pricing policy. Most often it's not.

Hope you find this answer useful.

Have a great day!
