Unmetered vs Unlimited?

Can you tell me what is the Difference between Unlimited and Unmetered? I saw these terms in this best web hosting page at Transfer/mo. column but I coud not distinguish them

Both are essentially the same, just a different term.
Keep in mind that nothing is truly "unlimited".

I see unmetered more with dedicated bandwidth - e.g 100mbps unmetered, say on a dedicated server. Meaning they don't limit the amount of bandwidth quota on the given period (usually on a month-to-month basis).

Don't be confused, both Unlimited and Unmetered are practically the same.

However, if you need to know the meaning between these two, this is the explanation:

Unlimitedâ€ bandwidth, cannot be deemed as unlimited. As Bandwidth is a measure of speed, data transfer speeds cannot be limitless as there will always be a maximum you can reach.

Whereas, for unmetered bandwidth, it means that they're offering an amount of bandwidth (eg, 1Gbps) that you can use as much as you like.

Basically the same. Although some internet companies tend to trick their consumer into believing that unlimited doesnt have a limit. Like localnode said. Nothing is really unlimited. There is always a bandwidth allocation.

I personally prefer the term unmetered as it means there can be a cap, but if you are using it reasonably you will not have any issues.

Unlimited always seems to have sneaky caps, and a lot of people have given the term a bad name in the industry.

But yeah, they are pretty much the same.

The both terms sound similar but there is difference between the both as follow -

Unmetered hosting service means, your web hosting provider will not measure the how much amount of bandwidth, disk space, inode, resources etc. your service is using but has already limit set to it. All has the certain amount of limit set by the web hosting provider. You can use all the resources, bandwidth as much as you want but within the provided limit.

In unlimited hosting service, hosting provider will provide bandwidth, disk space, inode, resources etc. with the unlimited value that is there won't be any limit. You can use it as much as you want. Off-curse there is certain limit but it's hidden from the customers. Using the unlimited word is one of the marketing strategy of hosting provider.

I don't like when hosts use either of these terms, as they are misleading their customers. No hosting is truly unlimited or unmetered rest assured if your site is using too much resources on the server the host will limit you. That's for both bandwidth and storage space.

Like everybody says, there's no such things as unlimited .
Unmetered is simply that means that your isn't measured or monitored, therefore you do not need to worry concerning overages, however it's a hardware restricted like 10Mbps, 50Mbps, 100Mbps transmission port.

Unlimited and unmetered is 95% same the only diferent is unlimited is youcan dload any bug files or videos that you want and the unmetered is the speed of your dloading its unmetered and fully speed.

Unlimeted and unmetered are the same i think. No need to worry. It depends in what you use. Unmetered is for water supply and other things. Unlimited is basically we always use in all things such technologies nowadays.

I think it is same it dependS on the speed and location of your provider.usually the bandwidths are limited together with the speed.

Folks, With all there respect toy you - and please take this positive - it makes sense to participate to any forum discussion only when we have knowledge can be useful to others. Having a signature displayed under meaningless or even incorrect response harms anyone's reputation.

"Unlimited" is a phony term used by overselling Shared Hosting providers to trick and fool customers. It is a total disgrace to anyone in the industry.

"Unmetered" simply means that there is no bandwidth limit in Mbps (or data transfer limit in GB or TB) set on the physical port or on the VLAN where certain physical device (server, switch or router) is connected.

So, it is very good idea all of us to answer questions when we know what we are talking about. Otherwise, this forum will be flooded by irrelevant responses, incompetence and finally spam. I don't want that for ForumWeb.hosting, do you?

Honestly, I have read some articles before about this matter. Unlimited hosting means you can get an unlimited amount of space and bandwidth. But if your server needs less space and bandwidth than it is not a good choice for you to buy unlimited bandwidth because you might experience unusual experience whereas unmetered bandwidth means you get to use as much resources as the server can hold. So according to me unmetered bandwidth is the best option for you and recommended.

Unlimited relates to your disk space and un-metered is related to your bandwidth. I would be vary of any provider offering any of these services as technically it doesn't exist unless it states in their terms of service. Providers will say unlimited thinking you've got endless amounts of disk space when really that's not the case.
