Hi everyone,

I have all my sites are increasing traffic, they are running on shared hosting and I think it will need a dedicated server soon. And of course is I will want to setup and configurate everything on an unmanaged dedicated server.

I read tutorials on this forum on how to setup software and hosting panels a VPS and I think it is not so difficult to have an unmanaged server but I would ask there are differences between setup a VPS and a dedicated server. If i have a dedicated I can setup and control it for myself?

Your answers would be appreciated.

Hi Joe,
there is no difference between a vps and a dedicated server, you will be able to setup the control panel of your choice/or to do without a control panel.
But if you are currently on a shared hosting, you should consider a VPS before a dedicated server

Well ..

There is a difference between a VPS and a dedicated server resources wise. With a VPS which is actually a virtual private server its hosted on a dedicated server or say node and which has minimum resources than a dedicated server. No doubt you can manage it and use as a dedicated server as long as the resources are not exhausted.

You can install any of the leading web hosting control panels such as Cpanel , Plesk , Direct Admin etc.. however if you are going with Linux as an operating system I would recommed use cpanel which is the best suited control panel so far for linux based hosting servers.

@OP You can always go with provider who offer semi-managed VPS hosting . You will still have full root access but will have technical support

Hi Joe,

A server at the software level is just a server regardless of type.

I would go for a cloud VPS it has many advantages over a dedicated server, failover protection being one of them.

Moving onto your own server is really easy.
If you already on a cPanel server you can take full account backups and restore them to your new server, only takes a few clicks.

Once you have your server you can manage it using your control panel cPanel is recommend.
