Domain and Hosting from different companies?

I am using my domains and hosting on different companies and is this the way you are using for your domain names? or should I host domain names and hosting from a company? which one is better? why? any further recommendations welcome!

Well having domain registration and domain hosting from the same company is actually a good idea as long as its a quality service provider and it saves your time and money too.

However its not required that you should have domain registered and hosted with the same organization as you may get a best deal for hosting the domain from other provider. So you can keep your domain registered with one provider and hosting with other provider.

Hi Kaz,

It makes little difference, most of our customers have the domain registered elsewhere and just point it at our name servers.
It's always good to not keep all your eggs in one basket.

Well.. People who are not aware of such things generally follows the registrar organizations only to their websites. Providers like Godaddy and resellerclub do provide domain registration along with the hosting plans too with massive discount on hosting services if you have your domain hosted with them.

You can register your domain name & web hosting account from two different providers. But some of web hosting providers, offers discount on domain names, while purchasing web hosting package.

If putting domain same place with hosting then my hosting provider downs, the domain can be downed?

I am just curious how web host can is a provider of domain names, they are domain resellers?

Most hosting companies resell domain registration anyways. I most commonly see people simply register their domain with Godaddy and host elsewhere.

I am using this way for my domain names and hosting, I think this way is more secure.

If your domain name is not under the control of the hosting provider you are free to switch provider at anytime.
The hosting provider cannot hold your domain hostage for a release fee or other reason which is something I've seen people complaining about.

Once you know and trust your hosting provider this is not something to worry about, until then don't give them control over the domain.

It applies reg a domain and hosting a website in different companies but for me my hosting number can provider free hosting of your domain if you purchase their plans and offer free renewals,I think that's awesome for me.

In short, it just depends on your provider and if you trust them or not. For example if you are going to be hosting your website with a company you are not familiar with, I would recommend keeping your web host and domain name separate. Doing so will help protect your domain name incase your web host goes under or attempts to hold your domain name hostage (which a web hosting provider should never do, but it happens).

I was lucky in past and never have problem with my domain names and domain resellers, and didn't know that your domain can be hold or locked with some providers.
I did purchase domain with hosting and after some period had that domains moved to another provider without any problems (just be sure that your domain isn't expired).

Why I did that, because I found out that domain name is expensive with that provider. For 1st year was free after that was $4-7 expensive then other providers.

You can find hosting providers with free domain name for 1st year, lifetime or discount for 1st year. Offers with 1st year discount or free is good for one year but look or ask how much will cost domain after promo period, many provider over sale domains after that period.
For example discount price is $5-$7 after that is $14-17 year.

Free lifetime domain offers with hosting package can help you to save time looking for domain provider and have all in one roof. You know how much you will pay every year. And you can later transfer domain. (I don't know what hosting company keeps domains)

Its all up to you, choose to have or not domain and hosting with same company / provider / reseller .

It is fine to have both with one provider, but make sure that your information is listed as the Registrant for the domain name. This way if you do have a falling out with the provider you do have a means to recover your domain name at least from the registrar.

I usually recommend people to use enom as the registrar and then use namecheap or someone else as the hosting provider.

How you trust your hosting company, if someday they suspend your account on the hosting then you also can not use domain name control manager. I read some people complained about this.

This all depends on the companies in question. If you are getting hosting from a company that has noted bad business practices then it's probably not the best idea to have both at the same company.

If you are dealing with a reputable company then it can be ok but then again it will depend on the company.

I have domains registered at Namecheap that are also hosted with then but both things are separated and that's what I like best.

I have domains at several different registrars and hosted at multiple hosts. Some are hosted at the registrar and some not.

When looking at domain names I look for a good registrar first and don't but them at a company that is primarily a hosting company.

I don't think this decides my decision, it has the different, if I choose base on my hobby, it can be more risks.
