Are there any advantages / disadvantages to hosting a .com website in the US or UK where the site / market is solely UK based products or services?

It depends on the website purpose. If you are looking to sale services , products in UK market then that website should be hosted in UK itself showing that you are local provider for UK and have existence which is actually an advantage. Having office in UK and website hosted in US is logically not recommended. Generally people do such things for cost cutting as UK and US bandwidth rates as well as hosting prices are different.

Not really, the only thing that will be effected is latency to the server. Unless you have a very busy and large site it will be hard to notice much difference.
Content delivery speed can always be optimized using CloudFlare etc.

We are a UK hosting provider but have just as many if not more customers for all over the world.

There is no benefit of hosting in the U.S. (except if you got a lower price and/or better service terms) if you target the UK market only. You;d better stay with an UK host.

No I don't think so, US has the largest audience who is more benefit to websites. I always chose US because of this reason.

I don't understand this.

Yes it's thing I am thinking about. One more thing, I think US host is quality than a UK host but I can not clarify this factor.

I was referring to the use of a CDN.

Good morning,

When you are asking about your web server's localization, the best solution is to bring your web server in the nearest location of your targeted customers, unless you have CDN.

the difference in milliseconds between someone browsing a site in the UK while located in the US could be upwards of 100ms, which is a lot when you consider all the other normal bottlenecks of rendering a site.
