I have a company who wants to host their websites with a hosting company, but they would like to maintain their current e-mails in a different server. I haven't done this before, so I would appreciate any advice. Is it possible to host e-mail and website on different servers?

Yes , its possible. You can just host websites and email on 2 different servers. What control panel is being used for those websites at the moment ?

Hi Ben,

This is just a simple matter of editing the DNS zone for the domain and change the MX record to point at the IP of the separate mail server.
Takes a couple of minutes to make the changes then you just have to wait for propagation to complete.

Again its quite normal to use different systems to host mail, especially when there is a lot of email accounts at play. Many big enterprise email customers will require multiple mail servers / backup mail servers with anti spam/malware services. Usually its a good idea to not run that many services on the same server you are hosting the site just from a resource perspective alone.
