How to set up a VPS hosting?

I have just purchased a VPS $10/mo to check their hosting features, it's an unmanaged VPS. I would like to hear your experience to set up my own VPS hosting.

They provided me root account with an IP address, I could access through SSH. My vps will serve for php sites. What type of system should I add on VPS, which control panels should be installed on vps to manage whole hosting as well? which addons would you recommend to install for more secure...etc

Can someone suggest a setup? Maybe some tutorials or anything.

There are a ton of option!

First of all, I would suggest you install a control panel to make things easier. cPanel being the most popular choice (paid) or centoswebpanel (free)

Then you need to decide what web (Apache, nginx, LiteSpeed) & database (MySQL, MariaDB, etc) server you want to use.

Once your up and running, you need to focus on security. Close unneeded ports, setup firewall, etc, etc, etc
