Hosting on Windows or Linux?

I'm trying to get a general understanding of the difference between Linux hosting and Windows hosting. Everything I've read so far appears to be extremely biased towards either Windows or Linux, without providing any detailed information.

As I knew that seems Linux is more stable and can run longer without needing a complete restart, but Windows has more support for any problems you may run into.

So far what I want to know some comparisons of web host under Windows and Linux rather than an actual development. Your comments would be appreciated.

The may difference depends on what you need to run on the server. If your site's use php, then you should use Linux. If your site's use asp.net, then you should use Windows.

Windows servers do need rebootsnfor updates more often then Linux, but it is not very often.

Well with Linux having KernelCare, there's really no need to reboot Linux at all.
CloudLinux is by far the more superior operating system IMO.
You should only be using Windows if you need specific things like asp.net.

My recommendation is naturally Linux.

I have not ever heard of KernelCare or CloudLinux before but I will try to have a look on them.

simple if you need asp then go for windows.. otherwise stick with linux

I have tried and tested web hosting Laravel on Windows and Linux CentOS to compare.
Performance wise, Linux seems better.

Needing asp.net is the only reason I can think of to consider running a Windows server.

I saw some hosting providers can allow you run both asp.net and php, so I should go with them? or should I use separated hosting, just Linux or Windows Hosting.

If you are looking for a shared hosting then always prefer Linux as its available with cPanel control panel which is easy to manage your hosting content, but if you want to purchase Windows dedicated server to run your own application which required Windows server then only purchase Windows server else avoid it to save good money.

It all comes down to what you need it for as others mentioned above.
for scripts such as PHP, Game servers, even CMS Linux is highly recommended.

Also it does not mean you can use windows languages such as asp.net on Linux or use PHP on windows however they run better when they are ran on the OS that they are optimized for.

You are right on this, I will keep it in mind.

I also have php sites, to be honest I ran both windows and Linux hostsing and feeling Linux is better but could not clarify why.

I also prefer Linux, Up to some extend its the technical side of things however its also up to preference as well.
I personally found that I had much less issues (bugs, crashes) occurring with Linux than any other OS.

My recommendation linux+cPanel, more stable, more compatible, the better.

If you need to APS - windows+plesk

It depends on your needs, but the fact of being open-source and therefore having a huge community to support it, makes Linux the best option IMO.

Hosting on linux server is more stable and safe than hosting it on windows systems

It mostly depends upon your requirements but I think Linux hosting is more secure and efficient than Windows hosting.
