I was wondering if i will also pay for a the second domain name in order for someone else not to use my version of .net of my domain. What if am not going to use it again is there any need for it?

Well as you said, it is a question of protecting your brand name. In general if we build a company we want to secure the brand name and reseve all relevant domain names, but most of the time .COM ... .NET and some important other endings . There is no rule, but yes if you have a premium name it could sum up on yearly costs, even if you only park (not use) the domain name active

I have a dot info and dot com extension for the same name. I first purchased dot info because it was cheap. however, I was afraid that someone might use dot com, which is more trusted, so I redistered dot com as well. I also had many cheaper alternatives of dot club and dot online domains, however, in the second year I did not renew those domains because it was more of a financial obligations. If your website has potential to grow big and create a brand that is easilt identified, having other extensions is really useful.

If you would like to create and protect your unique identity on the web then I would suggest, order the domain names with the other extensions too. They are necessary in SEO point of view. You can build your website on your main domain name that is extension which you would like .com, .net , any of your choice. After building the website on one domain, add the redirection for the other domains so they will disply the same site as of your main domain.

So go with ordering the other extensions too and be unique.

On a certain forum where I participated daily, I was offered a dot info domain for 60 cents. I used my full name as the domain name. I even built a personal website with that domain. Sometime back I was offered dot com for few bucks. I registered a dot come on my on name. Now I did not want to have different websites for the same name, therefore i directed dot com domain to the dot info domain. Having multiple extension helps, but it can be costly sometimes.

You can buy unlimited domain names if they're still AVAILABLE. Usually if someone buy .COM domain for their business & brand, they also buy .NET, .ORG too. That's for their brand protecting. IMO
