I am using OVH VPS for some websites and blogs and one of them got DDOS attacks but it was downed, I had enabled Cloudflare DDOS protection then everything was back normally, websites could run without any problems.

But I am wondering OVH really can prevent DDoS attacks or not, like what they are presenting this feature on their site

I am thinking this is not true. Anyone can make me clear about this?

Hello,
The anti-DDoS protection is included with OVH, but the attack require to be big enough to be detected.
If you want a full protection you can set your server IP in permanent mitigation mode, so all the traffic will pass by the VAC network to be analyze.

It will be better than Cloudflare "browser checking" page.

How to be big enough to be detected?
I think when it is big enough then my sites are downed so long :D. Though DDOS is small or big then it should be blocked immediately when the software detected.

I think it is a great idea to against DDOS attacks without using Cloudflare browser checking page. But this seems for dedicated servers on OVH?
Where is mitigation permanent mode?

Go into IP in your manager and you should see your VPS IP :

The OVH system need the attack to be long enough to be detected and to route the traffic to the VAC. During that time, there is no protection, so that's why the permanent mitigation mode is available.

Awesome @VirtuBox!

confirm-the-permanent-mitigation.png

Just want to know which will happen when I click on Confirm on the box, can I recover the automatic mode?
should I enable it only when getting DDOS attacks?
does it affect site traffic and site will run normally without a browser checking page like cloudflare?

You can switch back when you want to normal mode.
But if you are sometimes underDDoS, you can keep it always ON, it will analyze the traffic to your server and block automatically any attack.
In normal mode, as soon as the attack is detected, the mitigation is activated. But if you haven't receive any email about that, that mean the attack wasn't big/long enough to activate the VAC or it's something else.

You can also check your firewall events in Cloudflare > Traffic
