Hi Guys,

I'm finishing my proof of concept and look to rent bare metal servers afterward.
I need a provider with unmetered DDoS mitigation to maintain, performance and availability.
As you know a successful attack increases unnecessary costs on infrastructure but more importantly, it hurts revenue, customer satisfaction and brand...

1/ Hetzner seems to have unbeatable offers (EX serie High I/O) but I was asking myself if someone in 2019 can describe his experience with them during an attack ?

I heard that :
  • They suspend the server when you get a large ddos attack
  • They often just nullroute if the ddos attack is to heavy.
I don't want to be struggle few months later because I'll have to migrate all services to a new provider.

2/ If someone have experience with OVH or Scaleway, do not hesitate !

Thank you in advance,
Shakr

Hi,

We have used both of them a year or two later ovh and hetzner, a + goes to OVH. The only bad is that OVH does not have layer 7 ddos protecion, not sure about hetzner since we haven't had any ddos attack.
I would not recommend scaleway for production use in their barematal servers, alot of users raported node crach and loosing their data. Since scaleway is an online.net brand, maybe you should consider ordering from online instead of scaleway. They do use arbor ddos protection which isn't that great tbh.

Cheers.

Hi @Shakr, Obviously, I'm a little bit biased here, but I wanted to clear up two things in your post.

Null routing - That was a method our company sometimes used in the past before our DDoS protection system was in place. We no longer null route.
Suspending a server - Again, this was something that happened ages ago and that we no longer do.

I believe that you've also been in contact with our support staff about some of these questions. If you have any more, just keep responding to my colleagues' messages. They'll be happy to continue to help you. :giggle: --Katie, Marketing, Hetzner Online
