I use forums all the time and some of the forums I have hundreds of posts over the years but I have never been offered a staff position even when helping clear things up for new members or people in conflict on forum I use to sell stuff. I would eventually love to maybe try a position out on one but I am not in a rush so for now it just a hobby of mine to get on a talk with people in my free time when at home on my computer. Plus, its easier for me to just leave forums up on my spare monitor anyways so I'm basically always on!

It's really hard to be one way or the other these days. You want to support the community as best possible and learn and grow. At the same time though there is a lot of money that can be made and it's hard to not want to hustle and make additional revenue. It's started off as an additional way to make money but I honestly love going through and being able to help people out and give people information.

I want to say both.. I say this because to sustain a forum you need hosting, which means you need to pay for it. I know there's free ones out there. But I always prefer going with paid.
Although I have a full-time job a forum can take its toll on your finances in the long run if you don't have another source of revenue.

I love creating forums because I love bringing people together. And giving everyone, including myself the ability to help or recieve help from each other. Or even having a friendly discussion about why pizza is better than poutine (they're the same in my books).

I think for both, forum for hobbies and forum for money. It is a lot better expressing your thoughts about your interests/hobbies in forums. Earning money from it is okay however, it basically doesn't matter as long as you are passionate enough to do so.

I've ever built a forum by phpbb for my self in the past but I got failed because I got too many problems to manage and grow a forum. It's too difficult for me.
what about you? have you ever built a forum for yourself or join a staff from other forums and what are your purposes to join a forum, hobby or for money? or you are combining both of them?
I think that will be interesting to know your thoughts about that!
I do combine both of them. But there are some like mylot which I do as a hobby alone. The discussion discussions there are so interesting.
