I never grew up with the greatness that is XP, but I did really enjoy windows 7, can't believe they thought 8 was better. 10 isn't bad but I much rather still run windows 7.

It depends on what is the purpose you will be using it. If it is for general internet browsing, Office, Photo and video editing then I would suggest Mac. Macs are long lasting and hold their value for years.
I have my grandma who has a windows laptop which she needs to replace after every 1-3 years. As well as spending money on antivirus etc.
