    Average profit during first year of hosting reselling?

    Becoming a reseller is an easily accessible option that has gained an impressive renown in the past years, thanks to the variety of hostings. However, as it goes for any other online job, there's only one thing that truly matters in the end: how much can you earn from it?

    In average, how much can you expect to earn during your first year as a reseller? If you have done so yourself, how many customers have you gathered then and how much did you earn from it? Or is way too variable to make a reliable esteem?

    It really depends. I don't think there would be an average number. If you just simply sit back and wait for customers it won't happen. The only way I think you'll get any numbers is simply give it a go.

    You can definately make it reliable, however it does take some time.

    I imagine, yeah. Plus, you can change so many different things in your marketing, target audience, actual offer and so on that any esteem wouldn't be really significant nor useful to compare your business to others'.
    I presumed that during their first year everyone made mistakes someplace, so these disparities would balance out and give a more or less accurate average. I guess there are too many factors at play here.

    First things first. Select a niche (probably local companies?) visit them, tell them why you are the best next guy and after convince them give them a superb service.
    If you are enough professional and convincing i can say you can probably have a good chance of starting well. Please note: this is one of the most competitive industries and only positive people can keep alive after 24 months. The death of baby hosting companies it's huge. Looks like many people are looking for get quick rich from night to the day. It won't happen anymore.

    Yeah, there's no doubt it's a competitive market. Leading companies to trust you is probably the hardest step there, since most of them will probably be pleased with the service they're paying for (and most of them don't care much about it anyway, as long as it works). I guess this will only change as people grow more knowledgeable about web hosting, but I'm afraid that could still take years.
    Still, the only way to find eligible businesses is to keep at it and wait for the right opportunity.

    Exactly this if your not in this for the long term then serious money is not going to happen. I'll be very honest with you after a year if your making $50 a month your doing ok.

    It's so hard to get clients due to the huge firms like GoDaddy that suck up the majority of customers and then your competing against the thousands of resellers thinking they are going to be driving a Lambo in 2 years and quit after about 12 months.

    Imo if your serious about this you need a 10-20 year plan to generate serious cash.

    It really depends on the amount of money and time spent on advertising your product. Some might not see a return of investment for months or years, while others may obtain profit within a couple of months. Thats why a business plan is required before setting up shop. However a 10-20 year plan is way too long, no one can accurately predict future trends, therefore a 3 year business plan is more then enough.

    We ploughed all our profit back into marketing and still do. We would rather grow the business and advertise in the correct places to generate more sales.

    Its getting harder but we keep at it and one day we will get to where we need to be

    In this industry, nothing works without effort. Well planned marketing strategy can give you a healthy feedback whether you are reseller or selling from your own dedicated. It really matters how you are focusing on your work.

    If you're thinking about profits in the first year, you probably might want to rethink your strategy.

    Most companies don't make profit till 2-3 years in business.
