a vps priced on that scale will be too underpowered to be actually even called a vps. technically it will be a vps but it doesnt make any sense to have such an underpowered server with virtual specs

I already calculated profit on this and here is result I got by my calculation:

Its not possible for provider to sell VPS at $1 who use Colocation:
Price of colocation and IPv4 IP Address is bit high and most of Colo provider sell colocation at lest $25/mo with only 5 IP Address, If you wish to sell VPS at $1 then you will be need to purchase /26 IP block (/26 = 61 IP Address) and maybe you will be need 2 x /26 IPv4 block so cost of IP will cross $80 and you will be out of game of $1 VPS plan.

However you can sell at $3/mo with decent profit, You will be need to purchase your own dedicated server and colocate to provider who give IPv4 at low cost and colo under $80/mo.

Price can be lower If you want to do not provide IPv4 and provide only IPv6 IP, This is game changer but you will not get long term customer and most of will purchase it for VPN or Spamming. (I doubt that you will get good loyal customer).

Datacenter can sell at $1/mo VPS
Cost of bandwidth, etc can be much lower for datacenter and also they can get /24 IP block at much cheaper price so they will be even able to sell VPS below $1 with less profit but they will need to use less employee. One man datacenter can do this easily.

We colocate, we provide IPV4 as well as IPV6 and we are able to sell VPS for $1 per month of course you need to pay annually for it and we are not making any losses and our Disk I/O is also good so basically we are not overselling

[root@vps6 ~]# !dd
dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=64k count=4k conv=fdatasync
4096+0 records in
4096+0 records out
268435456 bytes (268 MB) copied, 0.414987 s, 647 MB/s
[root@vps6 ~]#

Though we just offer 128 MB RAM with our $1 VPS, we don't really make any profit with $1 VPS but we make profit when these same clients buy higher packages, these $1 VPS packages just pays for the colo/IP

Don't understand the price politics of those, who make such offers. VPS for $1 and shared plans for $2. A little bit confusing for the customer. But what's ever, VPS overselling works very well...

It does not necessarily means if somebody is selling cheap they are overselling, i already showed you the Disk I/O results, we are using RAID 10 SSD Drives and these 128 MB VPS are usually not used for web hosting, it even does not have cpanel or any other web hosting panel, most of our users uses it for private vpn/proxy but our web hosting comes with cpanel, fantastic etc.. hence it costs us more and we cannot sell it for $1, but when these same users needs VPS for hosting or need web hosting they order higher packages with us, and above all it pays for our basic colo costs.

If a host is overselling you can just tell it with their Disk I/O as it will become very very slow and hence slow down whole VPS Node.

It just needs some planning and experience to do it :)

$1 per month per VPS sounds super cheap to me. Even $5 per month per VPS sounds cheap. I used to pay $10 per month and $20 per month for the VPS-es that I get with a hosting company, and that looks like a fair price to me, taking into account the good service that I get, and the reliability of their support.

Anyway, maybe I am behind. Maybe there are VPS-es offered for much cheaper and I didn't know. Anyway, I would rather pay slightly more but have peace of mind that my VPS-es are in good hands. If I would get a VPS for $1 per month, and I see signs that the company isn't reliable and my support tickets aren't answered within a day or two, and I see server slowness problems or downtime coming from the hosting company's side, then I would't think much and I would move away from them. As I said, I would rather pay slightly more but get good service.

I have not ever seen a VPS provider that offering 2 GB RAM, 1 Core Processor starting at $79/mo
How they could sell VPS plans to their clients? It is very expensive if compared with other providers.

liquidweb.com/vps.html is pricey because they are offering managed VPS. The prices that they have are fine for managed VPS, where you do not have to do any configuration, or you do little configuration, because they do all the configuration for you. You tell them what software you need and they configure it for you. That saves a lot of time and money if you cannot do the server configuration by yourself, or you are too busy to do it and prefer to let others do it for you.

So, the $1 price per month is really cheap. But the $5, $10, $20, etc start to look more normal to me, taking into account that these are prices for non-managed VPS-es. They basically come empty, and for this price the VPS company doesn't move a finger. You do all the installation and configuration.

Hello ,
There are many cheap option for VPS with variety of features which may suit your requirement.
As far I get to know your need I think you should go for VPS with above 2GB RAM which could be easily obtained at $4.

It may be possible for you to get lowend vps at lowend talk forum. But not at $1 per month though.

Last time I checked, there are some providers offering KVM under $20 per year with IPV4, SSD and 512 MB RAM. The specs are decent and it should work fine for wordpress instances with serverpilot as control panel.

May be OP can check such offers, and also check this forum for offers close to the specs I mentioned. You will get OpenVZ for less price compared to KVM VDS.

So depending on your needs, you should choose one that works for you. Thanks

Just look for NAT VPS

Example: lowendspirit.com/index.html

They will roughly cost you around $5-8 for a year. Depends on the specifications & location though.

I don't believe there are any vps plans $1 month that can maintain quality and good support.

Can I buy this plan to test web scripts and hosting control panel?

Sorry because this is a discussion thread but I can't stop to ask because some recommendations here are very attractive. :D

I'm just wondering why it has low price like that.

I forgot to check there was 1024 MB RAM, maybe I need higher RAM for a temporary VPS.
OVH still is a good choice in this case.

Thanks

Some control Panels requirement:

cPanel
Hardware Requirements for CentOS 6.x and Below
Component Minimum Requirement
Processor 266 MHz processor (32-Bit/64-Bit)
Memory 768 MB RAM (1 GB recommended when hosting many accounts)
Disk Space 20GB hard disk (40GB Recommended)

Centos Web Panel
64 bit operating systems require a minimum of 1024 MB RAM

VestaCP
CPU: 768Mhz
Ram: 512M
HDD: 20Gb
OS: RHEL/CentOS 5,6

Virtualmin
Can run under 512MB needs only configuration

Plesk
Minimum requirements
RAM

The minimum amount of RAM required for installing and running Plesk.

Linux Windows
512 MB + 1 GB swap 2 GB

Disk space

The minimum amount of free disk space required for installing and running Plesk.

Linux Windows
10 GB 30 GB

I believe that is enough, you can run those control panel on 1GB

CPU.

Benchmark is not enough to say that the system is fast

The CPU can be fast but in the case of the i3 it has only 2 CPUs and on that server has 16 so you do not have traffic jam

We have hundreds of customers in NAT most of them running private VPNs with no complaints about the speed at all.

NAT has another kind of concept, we work with ports, not IPs.

NAT VPSs are not for production you can have it for tests, run scripts, try differents CPs or OSs, try turkeys that we offer, etc. so yes you can do it

Using a server with 1 GB RAM as a VPN and like a webserver is a huge difference. So no server with additional apps and scripts, dynamic sites and databases will run with 1 GB RAM. The conclusion is, that such "servers" are useless for modern dynamic websites hosting, forums, ecommerce etc.

Have you read my post #66?

We also have lots of customers with normal VPSs running CP with websites etc... all depend on how you configure your server also it helps with memory swap.

But not "when hosting many accounts". And cPanel advertisement on their page with that words is misleading. The reality is something else. Did you even try to set up such server with the requirements and then to create "many" accounts with many sites on it??? I think it would be more usefull for other readers to post things which are tested by posters theirself and with real experience rather then post copy/paste stuff.

Yes, we should warning them about this misleading, I have the reality on a VPS runing several websites, of course, it is not 1 GB but it runs in a VPS, second I just copy and past because it refers to a developer specifications, and my point is for NAT VPS with 1 GB RAM and 1 GB swap you can test any CP, it is not for porduction though.

Hi, please access our URL at https://vpsrus.com then look for products and NAT VPS then choose the 1GB NAT, please go through the whole order process but does not pay, open a ticket and I will install the VPS for you for 30 days.
Also if you want to test/try our other servers VPS I can give you 1GB 50 GB pure SSD for 7 days.

I agree, that's the same for Plesk, minimum requirements to install Plesk Onyx on linux are 512MB RAM with 1GB SWAP.

But on my own Plesk VPS, with only few websites (10-15) and without high-traffic, memory usage is already 2GB and 4GB are used for cache.

Less than 2GB RAM is not enough for a LAMP/LEMP stack, even without a control panel. MySQL/MariaDB server will always be faster with more RAM and the proper settings for the InnoDB Buffer Pool or the temporary tables storage.
For testing purpose, cheap servers from scaleway are a pretty good solution, and you can get 8GB RAM for less than $10/mo, with hourly billing. Their servers are not the fastest available on the market, but for that price and to run all my tests, I do not need a huge CPU.

That's it. Many of ecommerce-shop owners want to spend money for their hosting solutions, they try to running their shops on shared hosting plans or cheap VPS servers. The results are slow sites, time-outs, OS crashes and so on. There isn't anything between the two scenarios. Either you want to go the professional way or not.

I agree with you, when it's for your business, do not try to find the cheapest hosting solution, just try to find a solution to make sure your business website will load fast and will never go down.
For a personal blog, you can use the slowest shared hosting on the world, or go with a simple solution like medium/tumblr/blogger if you don't want to pay for hosting.

A VPS or server which is that cheap couldn't run cPanel on it. In that case, I'm guessing you'd have to install some thing like OpenVZ or some other open source interface application. Anyway, I've never really tried these interfaces. Are they as good as cPanel? I'm guessing no, but I could be wrong. For instance, in a lot of ways free forum software can be as good as premium.

Oh, by the way, the reason cPanel cannot be on these applications is due to the cost of the interface. A hosting company has to dish out quite a bit for it (in relation to other things).

OpenVZ is a virtualization enviroment, it's not a web hosting control panel.

Oh, by the way, the reason cPanel cannot be on these applications is due to the cost of the interface.
The reason why such cheap VPS can't run cPanel would be the RAM. Can't imagine that a $ 1 VPS has more then 2 GB RAM.

Can you really expect a good quality service for 1$ a month on VPS. Wait until the core host gets all and you start having big issues.

Cheap isnt always the best way to go

If all you really need to do with your VPS test lab, so to speak, is just to test out how well certain things would run, then I strongly suggest you create an account with Digital Ocean. You can create an instance, try out whatever you want and destroy the instance immediately after you have finished. That way you pay only exactly for what you have used. $5 would give you lots of chances to experiment. Oh, an instance is a vps which you create. Or, in Digital Ocean parlance, a Drop. Just ask Uncle Google where to find Digital Ocean.

Maybe $1 hosting service is just for marketing purpose to attract new customers, they will earn good revenue from offering real hosting services with higher price. I think so
