Recently I have been thinking about what web hosting to use, and my friend suggested me to choose a cloud hosting. He said it's easy to scale your RAM or CPUs if needed, also having better uptime. I checked out some offers it's pretty expensive. I am just thinking if I can upgrade my web hosting plan anytime I want, why would I go for cloud hosting? are you guys here using cloud hosting? do you give some reviews about it. Thanks

Hi Moebunto

The back end of what powers products listing as cloud hosting is normally a powerful VPS which is using virtualization technology such is OnAPP which allows that VPS to be independent of underlying hardware, If a hardware failure happens the cloud simply assigns spare resources giving almost 100% uptime.

Your own VPS is the same thing apart from the server is your own instead of shared.
Cloud hosting is far better than your site being depended on a single server. If something happens to that server, your site is toast until it is repaired or moved to another server.

Hope this helps

It's really a cool explanation, with this technology it's reason why it was so expensive like that

In cloud hosting services, I saw one click app which allows me to install or setup a VM and websites on it in minutes. This is also an advantage of cloud hosting?

Hello @Moebuntu
As LJS mentioned OnApp is a grate feature of many Cloud hosting and so is the up time. while it might not be always 100%, its the best you will get out of a normal hosting vs Cloud hosting.

Cloud hosting is not as expensive as you think, some companies see it as an marketing opportunity which leads to higher prices. Take a look at the link below, you will find many affordable cloud hosting:

To be honest it's not really that more expensive, I think you must be looking at some expensive providers.

Yes, most virtualization products are based on container technology. Containers from virtualbox to enterprise products like OnAPP allow you to spin up a virtual machine and install an operating system on it to serve websites in a matter of minutes.

The cloud hosting is more secured and uptime is better if you are not running a managed vps. Just that in most cases cloud hosting is more expensive.

Hi @Moebuntu, Most virtualization technology have actually has a little to do with the "containers" as a term in virtualization. "Containers" refers to an OS Virtualization where the virtual instances are simulated copies of the underlying software environment.

OS Virtualization is not a used on the Cloud. One of the reason is that when a computing system uses OS virtualization each guest virtual instance must use the Operating system used by the underlying physical server= This just does not work on the Cloud.

The uptime "should be" better with cloud hosting, but several company are already using cloud technology like Openstack with a fault-tolerance on classic VPS.

But it's not more secured, if you don't use ssh keys, there is always a risk with SSH bruteforce

Yes cloud hosting is a best It technique in which users can store its private data online. There are lot of cloud hosting services and applications worldwide. But choosing a secure cloud hosting is not easy. But all the public and private sectors are using cloud technology. I am using a Techarex Networks for my QuickBooks.

:( Cut the meaningless posting, please. All above sounds like posted by someone who has no idea what one is talking about... looks very much like a bot posting. Cloud Hosting is not "best It technique in which users can store its private data online", this is nonsense. One can use a physical server to host data and in many occasions it would be more cost-effective, while offering the same functionality. Colocating own equipment is much better long-term solution than the Cloud.

I have to agree with HostColor
Useless replies should be limited :D
And regarding the cloud hosting, we already have answer this in other post. Cloud hosting is not the next sexy and it is more suitable for developers and applications. The recent downtime (network issue) of Vultr before 2 days is another proof that cloud hosting is not providing better uptime than regular VPS hosting. But that would be issue for those who believe in the no-matter-what 100% uptime:)

SiteGround cloud hosting uses a highly advanced virtualization system which guarantees dedicated server resources for each website on the cloud.

Cloud hosting is far better than your site being depended on a single server. If something happens to that server, your site is toast until it is repaired or moved to another server.

Siteground doesn't use some Highly Advance Virtualization, they will most probably have their own OpenStack setup. Usually, the big players can afford to have in-house Open Stack techs to troubleshoot issues for small term companies OnApp is the next big thing for their premium support.

Coming back to the main point, Cloud Hosting is just mainly a "Term" used for Cloud VPS. So it isn't different from what DO, AWS, Linode or everything Cloud VPS Provider has to offer. One Click installers are provided by nearly everyone now.

I'm using cloud hosting for my projects, and I've found the scalability and uptime to be incredibly beneficial, especially as my needs fluctuate. Yes, it's pricier, but the ability to scale resources precisely and handle traffic spikes without a hitch is a huge plus. Traditional hosting might offer upgrades, but it's not as flexible or quick to adjust as cloud hosting. In my experience, if your site's performance and scalability are top priorities, cloud hosting is worth the investment.
