Opt in form on right sidebar or pop up?

Hi guys!
I need to get an opt in form into my blog right sidebar and maybe a pop up too.
What would you all recommend?

What blog framework are you using?

I would use a sidebar widget. I can't stand popups, and often time they cause issues on mobile devices!

True, but popups are also annoying and not always mobile friendly.

Basically, its abtrade off. You may get more subscribers from those that pay attention to the popups, but some will just close the window, and others may leave completely.

I would recommend that you split test this... Also why not use both... Quite often people want to ignore it first then afterwards they may want to sign-up - so give them a chance to do so with at least providing an obvious link on the site to sign-up...

If not pop-up-box message then also consider sliding bar at the top or bottom of the page as that can also get attention without being so annoying...

If you do choose popup box then I would make sure that it is driven by IP - in otherwords it is shown to new visitors and for returning visitors that is not or at least hidden for a couple of visits..

Regardless of pop-up boxes being annoying they do indeed work... But before you make any final decisions you should base it on actual data - hence split testing is a must for me in such situations...

Hey,

I would just like to put in my opinion about pop ups, I really would not go with them. If I have a pop up, it really frustrates me and I tend to ignore the message out of anger because it frustrated me. A lot of people will do this and not visit your site again because of it. I really would not use a pop up, but if you do want to then do make sure you only show it to each user once.
