The emotional connection with customers, is a longing for all brands, strong brands succeed because your name is remembered, even beyond the attributes of your product. Here are some tips for choosing a good name for your brand.

Choosing the right name for your brand is the first step to lead to failure of a product. Hence the importance of choosing a word that identifies the maximum benefits that your product will appeal to your prospects, a name that when people hear or read it, think identifies your product. Below we present some considerations for a brand name:

1. Unique and relate to your products
To create a descriptive and memorable name, the first step to consider is to ask what drives your business and what is unique about your product. To do this, it will help make a lot of brainstorming, since a word or phrase can help dilute new ideas. Let your imagination flow.

2. A catchy domain
Once you have a list of words, discriminates which are hard to remember or pronounce, because remember that your brand will be mentioned in videos, radio, television and in conversations, so you should make it easier for your potential customers find your mark in any medium.

3. Check if the domain is available
We are in full digital era and an important part of your business is your online platform. So before you choose the name of your brand, you should check if the domain for your website is available on domain registrars' website.

4. Precise
A word is enough to denote the qualities of your brand, consider if you are going to use upper and lower case, as these can be the difference in trademark registration. Avoid names with two or more identical vowels, like using numbers, except in cases that has a meaning closely related to product characteristics.

What are your tips to choose a good name for your brand?

Great post!

These days there are hundreds of new TLDs available which means you don't have to go for your typical ".com, .net, .info" domain extensions and with that it opens up the possibility of many names... Some cool domains out there are like ".ninja" , ".club" , ".zone" - so your branding could fit into that quite easily...

In addition it does help with looking into keywords/traffic numbers wrt exact or partial match domains.... Noting G's EMD algo targets poor quality content sites so as long as you avoid that you'll be fine... in other cases its also fine to even invent a word which can really catch on as mentioned above re: catchy domain...

I also think shorter names with out the hypthen in the URL is a good approach as you want it to be easy to remember....

Look forward to reading other people's views...

Cheers,

Sid

I agree that a domain name should be unique to you, but at the same time if possible you should try and least make it sound like relation to the niche your in.

I know some may point to domains ( Brands ) like apple, egg, amazon and so on, but on the whole I would try and make it slightly relative to your niche if possible.

I don't like hyphons, more than two words or domains with uppercase characters in them.

I also make sure that I can get the exact domain name brand for my twitter account and Facbook pages.

I'm currently trying to decide on a domain name for my own business, and I'm torn between making it a two word description of what I'm trying to sell, or giving it a catchy name that may not be so easily identified as relating to my product. I'm worried that the descriptive name wouldn't be so unique and memorable, but is it the safest bet?

You are right on point. From what I've learnt in the past, creating a domain name around the need of your target audience is a great move.
For instance, you want to be sharing information about how to protect eyes and cure it's related problem then the domain name must include this need you are satisfying.Or if you already have the product you want to promote on it, adding a bit of this product name to your domain name is very helpful also( that's what one of my friend did in one of his websites and it worked)
Also, a short domain name is appealing in the mind of people. I've seen domain name which is as long as 20letters on different occasions. If you want to combine words together, don't let it be more than two words. If the combination of the two words is very long, try to sing it in your head for some time in order to come up with similar ones that best fit the formal ones or reducing some letters from it, for example, articlestore.com can still go like this articlestor.com, articlstore.com and still pass that message.Short domain names are easy to locate and type in a browser.

I read an article about using keywords that describe your niche in your domain. It sounded like a good idea. I wished someone had told me that when I was purchasing my domain. I took the advice of an internet guru and wound up with something I really don't like so it looks like I will be buying another one.

Interesting read. The brand name is important for marketing purpose. It is important to differentiate yourself from the competitors by having a good brand name. It's even better if you can plan out product line name to make it sound seamless.

Very informative. It is a difficult task indeed to come up with a unique domain name as most f they already exist. It should also be easy to remember by people and able to say it correctly. Most importantly it should suit the niche. :)

Almost all the top level websites names have nothing to do with the company's activity, what does Amazon have to do with E-commerce, is the word google relevant to search. I think that the way to go is to choose a parabolic name that would incorporate the website philosophy or its big idea. Focusing on the niche may prevent the website from growth, you never know, what might start as a joke could become something revolutionary.

Sometimes it seems a good option to me to make a combination of 2 relatively short words - for example the first to be your brand name and the 2nd one to be related to your business niche.

Nice article! :) Your brand name should clarify the purpose of your brand. It should have the top rated keyword. It should be easy to remember and short. Make sure it is not already registered , it should be unique.

I agree with you! I think the reason why Google is so successful (well, aside from their good service) is their brand name. To relate to your number 1 which is Unique and relate to your services, Google came from the word Googol which means 1 followed by a 100 zeroes which is somehow unique and related to their service which is providing unlimited sites depends on what you searched for. Google is catchy and became a word that is similar to the phrase 'search in the net' like, "You want to find something? Then Google it!".

I just wanted to add in your tips, well this is not related to the domain name but this is a big factor for a business, the logo. Many logos have hidden meanings and it's amazing to think how they think of that logo.

Hey guys. If you do have a quality business, I think people will always search and visit your website no matter what your domain is. If your business is kind of rare, you should come up with a name which is easy to be pronounced and remembered by people. It should be able to be typed by people without a problem especially with its spelling. don't complicate everything. Do not use numbers, 70 percent of people find numbers depressing.

I think it always boils down to some basic tips such as, it should be easy to type and remember. There shouldn't be--as much as possible-- hypen or any symbols because this is usually not remembered correctly. it should somehow be directly pointing to the nature of your business and a memorable one. But above all these, I think your name will always be remembered when you deliver the quality service to your customers.

I think it should be relevant to the content of your website. Actually its not just about the domain name its about the content you provide for your target audience. I saw a lot of of awesome domains like an anime site called MasterAni.me which is a great idea. I learned that you can attract peoples with your cool domain name.

When picking a domain name, the basic rule of keeping simple applies best. Make it short, memorable, in correct spelling and very related to your website. It does not necessarily need to be the exact word but it must always be associated and related to your website. it always pays to be concise and simple at all times.

A perfect domain name is one that is short, catchy, positive sounding and easy to remember. It must have a universal appeal, reflect a special virtue/quality or applies to everyday life. Generally, it draws feel good” effect on the user and the company. It should not be registered yet or identified with any company or individual offering similar products/services, otherwise, it loses its unique value and identity.

Keep it as simple as it could be. One word is enough as long as its witty and catchy. Thinks of something that can be pronouce easily and remembered frequently.
