Can you redirect nameservers to a second set?

I want to move a site that uses custom nameservers, e.g. ns1.mycustom.net, ns2.mycustom.net. Unfortunately access to the domain to move will take time to modify because the person who has the account information is away on vacation. I'd like to forward those existing custom nameservers - mycustom.net - which I do have control over to a new host. When he comes back I can then change the nameservers to properly point to where they should. What I thought is that I can set a name records for each of ns1.mycustom.net and ns2.mycustom.net to use the IP addresses of the new host's nameservers and just act as a forwarding mechanism. Anyone try something like this before? :D
