The following are some questions to ask your hosting provider. Let me know if you have ever consider some of them.
1. How are package upgrades handled?
2. Are there discounts for paying ahead.
3. Are there setup fees
4. Are there charges if one exceed allocated bandwidth.
5. How do they handle site security.

These are some of the basic questions to ask and it is always good to clear all the doubts in before hand before making any investment. My main concerns when looking for a web hosting would be the fees and security for the data. Thanks for the useful post.

Thanks for this post, as it may help many people, who are new in this sphere, find the right host for them. I hope many people will add their ideas and the list will be longâ€¦

Some of the other questions, that I think a client should ask the host before making a purchase are:

1. Is there an option for upgrading or downgrading my plan when necessary?
2. Where are their servers located - whether the speed will be fast enough?
3. What is the uptime guarantee and is there a money-back guarantee?
4. Whether their services are managed or unmanaged, or in other words whether the client needs some technical skills.
5. What happens if the client runs out of storage should they upgrade to another plan or they can purchase additional disk space?
6. Are there any backups?
7. What operating system (OS) do they use?

Here are some more questions -

1. Do they have 24x7 support?
2. If the hosting fee won't be paid on time then is there any extension provided?
3. Do they have backup facility?
4. Is it possible to upgrade the existing hosting plan with extra bandwidth and resources?
5. Is there any maintenance activities performed periodically?
6. Is there any server security applied?
7. Is firewall active ?
8. Can customer take the backup at their end?
9. What is server up-time?

I will prefer following questions:

- Where are your servers located?
- When were you founded and where are your HQ located?
- What is money back guarantee?
- Can I get test ip?
