How to create VPS from a Dedicated Server?

I want to upgrade my current VPS to a dedicated server 24 GB of RAM as read recommendations on this forum but I want to share a half of RAM to my friend to use. How can I do that? How to create VPS from a Dedicated Server? I just want to know if the case I buy a dedicated server.

Install like solusVM or proxmox and virtualize the dedicated server or get someone like me to do it for you :whiteflag:

You can use Vmware to be the server OS this is built for creating virtual machines on a dedicated server the above are software added on to the OS that you installed.

You can install software like Virtualizor is a powerful web based VPS Control Panel. It supports OpenVZ, Xen PV, Xen HVM, Citrix XenServer and Linux KVM virtualization. which is really cool and they update there software to add improvements and fix bugs

Virtualizor and SolusVM are not free.

You can install Proxmox or VMware vSphere Hypervisor.

There are lots of VPS flavor virtualization we have, OpenVZ, LXC, Xen, KVM and so on I will take 3 in consideration OpenVZ and LXC that are containers and KVM.

What are the difference between them, OpenVZ and LXC are not pure Virtualizations they depend on the server Kernel to run on the other hand KVM is a full Virtualization with its own Kernel, ok what this means on KVM you can install ISO OSs like windows etc... on OpenVZ and LXC, you can not.

For the free control panels I would choose Proxmox it is stable and has some good features like you can create different virtualization on the same server but Proxmox can be installed only in Debian and you will need to have some Linux knowledge to do it.

There are many commercial control panel out there for you to choose . Can choose SolusVM or Virtualizor , with a bit of monthly fees only.

Otherwise can consider Proxmox, it free if do not need commercial support.

Use some virtualization software like virtualizor.com and solusvm.com Then you can create your separate VPS from the Dedicated server

it really depends on what OS the server has, if it was windows 8.1+ or server 2008 r2+ then you can easily install Hyper-V and creating a virtual machine and assigning its resources (CPU Cores, RAM) is really a piece of cake for any beginner or even non experienced individual with minimum computer skills, the least easy part would be though setting up Virtual External Network .or Internal Network through hyper-v to enable network connectivity for that VM and you may access it via RDP or SSH as soon as your favorite OS is installed and configured right, Just Google it and you will love it

If you want to split the server down the middle i would suggest sing VMware exsi.

This will allow you to login and create 2 VPS that you have 1/2 the resources of the server with out any issues or having to install and OS to install add-on's to run other operating system on top.

just choose your type of virtualization xen or kvm or whatever suits you and find a panel to control and create VPS on your server there are many out there just a google search can help you might have to pay a few bucks but might be all worth it
