Do you allow email forwarding?

I have a customer with 200 email accounts and 100 forwarders. This is a cpanel account.

I am just wondering if other hosts have just turned off forwarding at this point. The accounts I've had that use forwarders end up causing all kinds of back scatter, etc.

Personally I haven't noticed enough of a negative impact (if any at all) to disable forwarders. For many people, this is an essential feature.

200 email accounts for one customer is a huge amount, you might want to look into the reasons why they need 200 mail boxes regardless of how many forwarders they are using.

As long as they aren't sending out spam I don't see why it is the hosts place to go snooping and contacting their customers. There are plenty of reasons to have a lot of mailboxes for an organization.

True, but I would still take a peak at the mail delivery reports to check for spamming. Email received and delivered is something that needs monitoring daily.

For sure, any good host would be checking that from the backend. I thought you meant contacting the client and asking about the usage purpose, because in that case unless something suspicious was found in the backend, I think it would be inappropriate.

I agree that 200 email accounts/100 forwarders is a lot and I have never had a customer on our Web/Reseller use that many. With that high amount that surely increases the chances of spam being sent due to insecure passwords etc. That said, as long as they aren't sending spam/causing high load etc then all is good.

That's a fair amount. I've seen many small business use up this many e-mail accounts. As long as they are not sending these in the form of spam then I think you are good. It also just depends on your providers policies.

I definitely wouldn't limit email forwarding. It's an important feature that most customers expect from their hosting company. As for the customer you mentioned, you might want to look into what exactly it is that they're doing, and make sure that they aren't violating your Terms of Service.

I use email forwarding for my "[email protected]" accounts, because it's much easier to view them all on my personal email than to go to each individual email client each time I want to check it.

I definitely would look into 200 email accounts because it might be spam, but i wouldn't disable email forwarding for the people who legitimately use it.
