I would appreciate any guides about setting up and running a dedicated server for a web hosting company. I am using VPS but going to upgrade to a small dedicated server next months.

It would be great If anyone know's where I can find articles or even books about this subject.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Emilio !
It's exactly the same than a VPS. You have the choice to use a control Panel ( cPanel / Plesk / Centos-WebPanel / VestaCP ) or to setup yourself a web server. But if you are looking for a dedicated, that means you will not manage it from command line.
A good way to pay your control panel license cheaper and to have more security is to use virtualization to create your own VPS. You can use VMware vSphere or Proxmox to do it.

Emilio,

I assume you are colocating this server and not leasing it, if you are leasing it your hosting provider should install your operating system and control panel of choice and provide you with the login details all ready to use. If it's your own server the process is more involved, you need to first configure your hardware settings, raid etc then install your operating system CloudLinux or CentOS is recommended. Last step is to install cPanel or your control panel of choice ( if your going to be using one ). Then this all needs to be configured, setting up a cPanel server is quite quick and easy.

I didn't hear about using VMware vSphere or Proxmox on a VPS or a dedicated server. I thought it was used by hosting providers who used them to create VMs and selling to their customers.

I tried some VPS hosting packages and they didn't install any operating systems and I have difficulty in setting up them.

It is reason why I asked about setup a dedicated server or installed Centos or CloudLinux on a VPS/dedicated server and start installing control panels such as cPanel, Plesk or CWP.
