I think Google is a female and female loves the Long......Just Kidding

Google never prefer the long content. Google prefer just quality content, just unique content. If you have very short content providing better information having uniqueness then google love your site. And if your content is created too long by the Master of Copy Paste having all necessary information, then google will not love you. So just take care of content because content is The Mr. President or we can say content is a king.

I think that one of the main reasons that longer article and content does well is the fact that there is supposed to be more information on that given topic. There's also the fact that the longer the article/content then there are more words that might show relevance to it's given topic. More words in an article means more different keywords in many cases.

Even though Google and others say they like longer articles, there are still very high ranking articles in probably every topic/niche that are only 100-300 words or so. If Google liked longer content better then why are those extremely short articles ranking above the longer articles?

I think that perhaps Google looks at article length as a small factor out of the many other factors that they use for their rankings.
