Previously I used to build sites I used to make iphone version by using php to detect device and create the iphone style sheet.

However, it is obviously not good idea to assume iphones are only phones capable of web browsing now a days. So what is the current method of developing a site to be mobile friendly?

I know about responsive design but not really require something that changes when we resize our browser - especially when it's someone asking me to make their current site mobile friendly...just a normal fixed-width website on the computer with a mobile version for those with phones.

Please help !

You will need to learn more about css ( media screen) to make layouts display the best on mobile devices. I couldn't show a tutorial in this thread to help you design a responsive web design. It will be very long article and consume me more time to do that.
But sure that I will write an article about this aspect soon. :)

If your site uses CSS, we in the blocks should not be a fixed width, plus it will be necessary to set the font size change depending on the width of the screen
