Still wondering about whether or not to buy a domain name? Wait no longer. There are great benefits in having a quality domain name. A business card only goes so far but a website opens your company's door to potential clients across the globe twenty-four hours a day. An effective domain name can also yield significant returns for your enterprise. Descriptive domain names can be very useful on a competitive market.

The domain is an important for publishing website, and if we use dedicated server for hosting our site then we can get the benefits of the unlimited features from the desired hosting firm.

Having your own domain name provides your business your unique professional identity which users can safely associate when dealing with your company, products and services. It adds credibility and seriousness in the eyes of your different users.

Also, your domain name becomes your permanent website and email address and you can even use multiple email address using your domain name. A company without a domain name that ties itself with service provider, will have some serious problems if ever they decide to drop with the service provider since that will mean changing your web address, email addresses and redirecting your links or making announcements to the new website and email addresses.

Although registering and maintaining your domain name involved costs, the long term benefits far outweigh the negatives especially in terms of of name recognition and branding, flexibility over changes and planning for marketing strategies, and being easy to search online.

For me, it is beneficial to have your own domain name. This can be extremely important for businesses seeking to build a brand and name recognition. Eventually, customers will begin associating a domain name with the website and company so choosing a simple name is perfect because it enables people to recall it more easily. It also lends credibility to a website and a business. The individual or business with its own domain generally appears more established and professional than someone with a website built on a free server.

I believe that having a Domain name is crucial to having a successful online business. With a domain name, you have the ability to control your company, your business, and to make a brand for yourself. By doing this, you will increase productivity and interaction with customers, viewers, etc. Also, you will not be restricted in any way, because this name is your own. Many of my family members are involved in business, and discuss the importance of a domain name constantly for those who have a website or online business. If you were to have a website that you do not own completely or that has a professional name, you will not receive the full benefits from it.

Similarly, there's a need to have a domain name. You might not need it today but in a few years' time you'll need it. The way people think about websites is changing, and more personal landing page services like flavors me and revere popping up and it takes a matter of minutes to set up. In a few years it may well be common to send a link to your online CV. It's worth future proofing yourself now, rather than gambling on ending up with some godawful domain name because it's the only one that includes your name and it's kind of disappointing at times.

Domain name provides you the unique identity on the web. If you would like to reach to the people online then you should have the website and website used to display on the domain name.

You can develop the website under hosting panel but for displaying it on internet, you should have the domain name. Domain name used to resolve to the IP address of your hosting provider's server. Now a days, everything is online and people needs your online identity that is your website. This become the most essential part of the today's world.

Domain names have a lot to do with brand creation and marketing.
Would you expect pepsi to use a website like "www.popularsoftdrinkguesswhich.com" ?
Or nike to use "www.reallygoodsneakers.com"

domain names are your calling card on the internet, for whatever product or business you have. it's your company's online name basically.

By getting your own domain name, you set apart your identity from other site, in which you can attract visitors and soon to be clients. Having it is a good start if you want to manage your own website.

If you register a domain name, it will be a unique identity of your business and also you as individual who owns it. People also hoarding domains for future selling purposes. They are getting good amount of money if someone offered to buy it from them. Remember fb.com? the registrant got good amount of money when facebook bought it I guess.

Main benefit of owning your domain name, is that the intellectual property you build there is your own, as well as the brand your domain name will become, if enough time and effort is invested.

Having your own/custom domain name was just like having your own backyard, no one can enter it, meaning no one can use and edit the same domain name except the owner. This was a good business i guess, buying domain names ahead, as they will be forced to buy it from the owner

Using your own domain name and email helps you to build a brand and name recognition. Respectively, this improves the customer trust. It's always better to have an email that is …[email protected], than …@yahoo.com, for example. Choosing a simple and easy-to-remember domain name makes it easier for clients to remember it. It also gives you the opportunity to place advertisements of your own choice, affiliate links and more. For example, there are people who use blogspot blogs to spam, so this makes their websites not very attractive in terms of advertising on them. In some cases, when you choose a hosting plan with long-term subscription you also get a free domain name and discount of the hosting plan price, so you can save a lot of money.

Agree with stew4 that own domain name is a good way to have your own business but for email address if you are working for Google and owning this email [email protected] then you will be trusted more than you use your own email domain :smart:

Personally I think @mycompany name is much trusted over @gmail or google.
You wont find facebook owner using @google.com when he can have @facebook.com, if he would have though that google is better than my company brand.
So you need to have have trust and vision for your own brand.. Free stuff wont offer that.

Hi, Chris! :) I meant that if you have a website for selling male shoes, for example, it would be much better if you use an email with your own domain, rather than using an email with @gmail.com, let's say. When connecting with potential customers who have questions about the products presented on your website, it's better to connect with them via an email that contains your domain name. No matter if you work for Facebook, Google or another big company, if a person wants to connect to you and ask a question about the shoes you sell, I think it will be oddly, if you reach them back via an email that does not contain your domain name.

That's true. @gmail.com etc is fine for personal use, but if you are trading I wouldn't really put much trust in a business that doesn't have their own domain. They are so cheap these days there really is no excuse for a business not having their own domain.
