Phishing is one of the easiest forms of cyber attack for criminals to carry out, and one of the easiest to fall for. It's also one that can provide everything hackers need to ransack their targets' personal and work accounts.

A basic phishing attack attempts to trick a user into entering personal details or other confidential information, and email is the most common method of performing these attacks.

The sheer number of emails sent every single day means that it's an obvious attack vector for cybercriminals. It's estimated that 3.7 billion people send around 269 billion emails every single day.

Phishing scams continue to proliferate at alarming rates and are becoming more and more difficult to detect. It's important for you to understand how to recognize a phishing attempt and what you can do to protect yourself.

Follow the tips below and stay better protected against phishing attacks.
  • Do not click on any links listed in the email message, and do not open any attachments contained in a suspicious email.
  • Be cautious about all communications you receive. If it appears to be a phishing communication, do not respond. Delete it. You can also forward it to the Federal Trade Commission at [email protected].
  • Install a phishing filter on your email application and also on your web browser. These filters will not keep out all phishing messages, but they will reduce the number of phishing attempts.
  • Do not enter personal information on a pop-up screen. Legitimate companies, agencies, and organizations don't ask for personal information via pop-up screens.

Thank You.

There are a few simple things you can do to help protect yourself from phishing emails. Be suspicious of emails that ask for personal information such as account passwords or credit card numbers. If an email looks strange, be sure to investigate the link it contains before responding. And never give out personally identifiable information, even if the person asking seems legitimate.

To prevent spoofing and phishing, you can configure and enable DMARC records. It is considered a 'best practice' for elimination of spoofing and phishing attempts using your domain.

The following are some of the more simple actions that you can take to guard yourself against phishing emails. If someone asks you for sensitive information like your account number or personal password, you need to be on the lookout for potential security risks. The first step is to ensure that your spam filters are functioning properly, followed by the configuration of the spam filter's rules, the installation of anti-phishing software, and finally the delivery of security education.

People often receive phishing emails that attempt to steal their personal information. To protect yourself from this attack, you can use the following tips:

1. Always be suspicious of unsolicited emails. If it sounds to be true, it probably is.

2. Don't give out your personal information unless you are sure the person is asking for it is trustworthy.

3. Operate a secure password and keep it confidential. For example, could you not share it with anyone?

4. If you think you have been affected by a phishing attack, contact your financial institution or insurer immediately.

If you've been receiving emails from your Cpanel that seem to be spam but don't remember sending them, it might be because cyber hackers were sent using your email address without your knowledge or consent. If you're concerned that your email address might have been compromised, you should take the necessary steps to protect yourself, including changing your password and not clicking on any email links.

You can also use anti-spam email protection to protect your server from a phishing attack.

Use Safe Browsing in Chrome to obtain alerts about malware, hazardous extensions, phishing, or websites on Google's list of potentially unsafe websites. Choose Enhanced Protection in your Safe Browsing settings to add more security measures, enhance Safe Browsing, and contribute to greater web security.
