As at least one person has noted, comments are good for SEO. Nonetheless, is there a way to stop the spamming of comments besides signing up for Askimet? I mean, with forums, it's quite easy and free to stop spam. You simply ask the people registering stuff like, "What is this word spelled backward?", or some difficult question, or some advanced captcha.

You could ask users to answer a question. But there will always be spammers, you've got human and them both scammers. Bot scammees are a little easier to manage but humans are almost impossible to stop. The best defense is approving each post.
