I wanted to ask this question many times because I am curious how to become a VPS provider. I thought to start this you need to have a dedicated server and install some software on it. But what software? I never know about this. Do you share any points when you started as a VPS provider?

For the most part, all you need is OpenVZ or KVM, which are different ways of creating virtual servers. OpenVZ will allow you to create more servers out of the same dedicated server by sharing some of the resources between them, such as the kernel, while KVM will emulate an entire system. Some people do prefer to have their own kernel though, as it offers much more in the way of customization. If you look at a host like ramnode, you'll see that they offer both options, at slightly different prices.

One good emulator I've come across is Virtualizor for KVM VPS's. It's quite straight forward and they offer great support.

Hi,

There are numerous softwares you can install, the main 3 that is good for reselling on WHMCS/Blesta, are:

1 ) SolusVM
2 ) Virtualizor
3 ) Proxmox.

Virtualizor is the easiest to set up, has a simple UI, for single servers, its the best, but please note, if you google reviews, or virtualizor problems, you will notice, across many servers/ after creating and destroying many nodes, it eventually runs to a HUGE amount of problems

SolusVM is like an old old software. It works, but it uses an old code, so its difficult to set up, but once its done, its pretty stable and works fine

Proxmox is new, but u need a lot of coding knowledge/experience to get it working fine. It also works best across clusters of servers.

JUST AN EXTRA MENTION : NEVER TRY RUNNING TWO TYPES OF KERNELS ON THE SAME BOX. I KNOW VIRTUALIZOR LETS U RUN OPENVZ AND KVM on a same box, but dont do that, unless you're ready for a lot of work

Yes, you need a Dedicated server. Install Proxmox which support LXC and KVM VPS. Use Proxmox's WHMCS module.

You can also use SolusVM or Virtualizor.

There are a number of solutions available to assist with Server Virtualization and VPS administration, such as VMware, Openstack, and Citrix Xenserver. For the purpose of selling VPS servers in the web hosting market, then you may want to choose a premium solution, such as SolusVM or OnApp. These platforms are already conformed to cater to this target-audience and will enable you to offer a variety of OS templates with your servers.

You have to know what you want to do, if you want to provide VPSs to customers or if you want to create VPSs to learn and give some for your friends to try them.

a) the first case, it is a paying solution you will need to rent a server and you can opt for several control panels like Virtualizor, SolusVM, and others, also you will need a billing system like WHMCS, Blesta, Hostbill, etc... this will cost some money to make it run, all of them is easy to instll and to run.

b) you want to learn and don't want to spend money if this is the case you will still need to rent a server it will cost about $ 10.00 / month then you will need to install a control panel like Proxmox and billing system like Boxbilling, they are free, but also lack in support, you will depend on the community to get help.

SolusVM and Virtualizor are great, we use both. I have no experience with Proxmox so can't comment on that. KVM is the way to go though with regards to stability and security.
