When you look for a web hosting plan for a website, how long do you look for it? Do you research reviews about their hosting company or searching them on forums? When you search a web host, does some one help you or do you remain independent and do it yourself? For me, it usually takes a few days, at least 2 to 3 days before deciding to go with a new web hosting, because I want to get everything right. What about you? what will affect to your decision when purchasing a web hosting plan?

Hello,
Do check how long the webhost is in business , dont choose new webhost .
I dont believe in reviews as they all are not correct , mostly done by marketing team.
Support is very important as you dont know when the service goes down.

I believe you should look at the services offered by each hosting company, their pricing and more importantly, customer support.
Customer support is very essential and must be looked out for when searching for a hosting provider.
I don't quite believe in not choosing new web hosts. How then do you expect them to grow? and by the way, even old web hosts mess up a lot

If everyone goes only for know hosts how new ones will appear, and how the market will evolve? If you have possibility to test their service, you can also try new web hosts. Who knows what 'gems' you might find :)

How long do you consider a web hosting company is new? some months, 1 year or 3 years?

Of course is reviews are not trusted but at least we have some things to analyze before going with a web host.
Other than that, I think we need to check a new web hosting reality by using their services for 1 to 3 months at least.

How long has the host been around, it's beneficial if they have been established for some time, but this doesn't mean rule out the really new ones but if you are going to choose a newish hoster, ask your self how are you going to feel if your site just disappears and you have no chance of getting it back?

I've been looking for a web hosting plan for a week now. I'm still unsure whether I must choose VPS, Dedicated or shared. It seems the cost vs security is an issue for me. So, in short, yeah I take a lot of time researching about various plans and offers before finalizing on a single one. It's hard to ignore the security side and reliability of my website though. There must be top of the line security provided at minimal cost.

The best place to look is on forums as its super easy to compare a range of companies.

I agree with Rapid2 on this.
But I found that, using forums to find a web hosting is making more difficult than a website because there are so many offers there which can make us confused in comparing or choosing?
Forum threads are good but they should be well organized to make easier for finding information in hosting packages

Sometimes new hosts are a better choice, compared to older and more popular ones, because new companies want to earn more clients and to grow faster. Therefore, most of them have really friendly attitude towards clients and they offer competitive prices. (I consider new a company that is about 1-3 years old). What I have noticed is that sometimes some of the popular companies that have been in this business for many years, tend to provide clients with not that good support and higher prices for their plans.
When I am looking for a hosting plan, it usually takes me about 4-5 days to choice. Sometimes I ask my friends for opinion, to recommend me a host they have used and they have been satisfied with. Then, if I have a few options to choose from, I check their customer support, I compare prices and what plans' characteristics do they offer for the given price. I also do some research about the companies. And, at the end when I pick up a host, I choose monthly payments at first to check if everything will be ok with the services they provide. And after some time if everything is fine I choose semi-annual payments, as there are often big discounts.

I take feedback from forums and also friends who have operations which require web hosting. It's great to take in opinions but there's also a need to be decisive as we cannot procrastinate and make our business get delays. Sometimes, I will just go for reputable companies when there's a deadline to meet. Stability is important for me since I can't afford to be testing new hosts like white mice at the lab.

It really depends on what kind of hosting you want and what do you want it for, it's never good to rush thing when you're purchasing a long term service. My advice would be to do some research check feedback and it's always good to consider more then one host just for comparison.

I have been around the web hosting business to know who the good web host are. And who to host with and who not to host with and all of the red flags of a bad host. For example is someone is offering $0.99 hosting they are a fly by night and there going to fold shop really quick.

And there are other telltale signs that show that they are a fly by night webhost. My best advice to anyone looking for a new web host is to good their name "webhost review". And then you will know how good or bad they are.

P.S. The answer to your question is I don't even have to look because I know who I am going with before I even make a new website.

I usually search for 3 to 4 days, I try to find as many reviews as possible, carefully compare the prices and what features they offer before I make a decision. If they offer a free hosting option I usually try that out first for a 2 or 3 months and if I am satisfied during that time then I will upgrade to paid plan. Else I will start looking again for something else.
