I get this problem sometimes, it's just a simple matter of moving everything with FTP and IMAP manually. no big deal.

No, if the customer can still access the account and provides the details to us the old host can do nothing about it.
Also this reminds me of the time someone moved from me to another host (they came back later because awful service and decided $1 is not worth it when the service does not work) I got an email from their support asking me to help with the transfer. I was like "Are you joking ?" :D

That company could not even do a migration so god help their customers.

I would say that it sounds like a hosting company (or one that pretends to be one) that I know but I doubt they would be big enough to even ask. :yahoo:

If download and upload speed of both servers to above 200Mbps, The account should be migrated and setup within 20 mins as long as the disk space is less. Afterwards, if you test the site if everything working fine through hosts file and its perfect, you can update A record or nameservers. A record may take 3-4 hours to propagate the changes and 12 hours to propagate nameserver all over the world.

Its through WHM-WHM migration through transfer tool or using below steps:

login to source cpanel >> Generate full backup
put backup file in public_html

Login to destination server and download it using wget domainname/backupfilename.tar.gz

and restore it using /scripts/restorepkg backupfilename.tar.gz

If you don't have root password of server, contact hosting provider and give them backup downloadable link so that they can get it done for you.

Anyone can not tell average time or estimate time with cpanel to cpanel migration with server. it's depend with your current server network and performance, your new server network and performance, cpanel data strength and your if you are reseller provider then your main hosting provider support speed

For migrating two worpress sites of around 2 gb in size.

If done manually:

-> Manual wordpress backup (files + db)
-> Manual Email accounts syncing (assuming around 10 accounts)
-> Restoring backups on new host
-> Testing functionality
-> Changing nameservers

total time taken will be around 3 hrs. I will not discuss other methods, as many members already gave very better overview. Manual backup and restoration will work with any control panel as long as you know what you are doing.

We have done migration from vps<->cpanel, cpanel<->cpanel, no control panel to cpanel. Directadmin to cpanel, plesk to cpanel likewise.. So in every case the migration or transfer time differs. The manual case i discussed above will give you some hint about how much time it may take if the both source and destination ends does not connect with each other.

Thanks
