$1 Web Hosting: Yes or No?

If I were to pay $1 per month for hosting, the only hosting companies I would trust are 1&1 and Namecheap. Both of those companies are big time hosting companies and not some fly by night hosting company. And in the end you have to ask yourself, how important is my website to me? And do you really want to risk losing everything for some $1 a month hosting.

If there are customer reviews/recommendations that show the host is reliable then its worth going for.

I think $1/month is too low. Either the plan is the most basic of plans ever or maybe they aren't a very good hosting service to begin with. You should try to check or find out what are the advantages of that plan, what does it offer. If the plan offer little resourses or it's too limited then you'll have to upgrade it anyway and end up paying more than $1.

I guess this is an OK option for those just starting out, but as you grow, you are going to have to probably upgrade anyway. I guess the hope is that as you grow you CAN afford a better host with more options and support. However, like in all things, you tend to get what you pay for, right? Still, this is a very little amount of money, less than what you will spend on your coffee today, so what's to really lose by giving it a shot?

I think you get what you pay for and can you really trust a service that only cost $1.... I would suggest spending a few extra $$$ and then at least you can sleep at night knowing your not having issues with your site and email
