What is the difference between a web server and a web hosting server?

Can any one tell me what is the difference between a web server and a web hosting server? which one is more important and why?

No difference if you go with the services that a web server serves. You can host multiple websites/mail/databases on both servers since they are web servers or say web hosting servers.

No differece, a web server is a webserver (www,http) web hosting server is same. So you can use webserver for personal or host some customers. "A car is a car no matter if you have passengers or not"

I thought that they have the diffrenece as web server contains www, http, emails, htaccess, files, folders while a web hosting server is the hardware as RAM, CPU, Diskspace...etc and all components are related to hosting hardware.

If you want to split hairs: All web hosting servers are web servers, but not all web servers are web hosting servers. For example, a Windows server may have IIS installed (Microsoft's web services), which makes it a web server -- but it may not be hosting any web sites. Some apps need web services to run, but no "websites" are involved.

(BTW, email has nothing to do with web severs -- that's email servers)

I sometimes, wonder, you will post somewhere that you run VPS with nignx and other stuff, and now you post what is webserver lol... I do not know, why you ask simple things like this, when you buy dedicated servers, vpses and play with too many things everyday.

Web Server is a software. Apache is a webserver, Nignx is a webserver like wise these are all softwares..

Web Hosting is a terms used in market specifically to address people that they (hosting company) provides web servers on rent or lease which could host websites. Simple.. This is no rocket science.

If you ask about hardware, your home PC can also become a web server and host websites provided that it is reliable, up and running 24/7/365 days just like server hardware.

I am not saying to use PC for building your server, but I am just clarifying that it is not a rocket science.

The server hardware is more robust and tuned for optimal performance for hosting websites over the internet. That is the major difference between hardware of your PC and Server.

Rest all same, you can have graphics cards on servers too, just like you have it on your home PC.. Gaming server have graphic cards and GPUs like your Gaming PC, but again as I said the hardware is more robust.

This is all basics...Internet is a network of computers...simple.. check some wiki, when you get sometime.. I really wonder and surprised when you posted this thread, as you claim that you use nignix and other server software in day to day activities.

There is no big difference. you can create a web server on your system and run websites and apps if this server created on a specific location with some special infrastructure you can call it a web host to host your files similar as your local web server.
