Which VPS hosting company has the most knowledgeable/expert support? And I'm talking about real experience and skills. Not just installing a LEMP stack and configuring Nginx. A support team that can debug an unusual issue and help you with your problem. A support team that is detail-oriented and properly does their job, not just do it so they can get it over with as fast as possible.

Most of the VPS hosting providers I've seen use cheap outsourced support. There's nothing wrong in outsourcing your support, but at least pick a quality company, not the cheapest one you can find. In such cases, the most their support team knows is configuring a simple LEMP/LAMP stack with WordPress. Nothing more.

I'm not talking about fast and good support like LiquidWeb. Yes, they are fast and they are good, but they have their limits. They won't help you with your very specific issue with postfix and randomly blocked ports or whatever. They will, however, promptly help you with your WordPress/Apache issue.

I know all hosting companies have different management levels (ie what they will and will not do). I'm looking (for informational purposes only) for a support team that has learned Linux first, then web hosting second. Not the other way around.

Most of my (and my clients') experiences with VPS hosting support is subpar. And no, they are not EIG. The problem is that they are experienced in web hosting support, not Linux support.

So...My questions is: which Linux VPS provider has the best (expert) Linux support?

Hi NickR,

It's a thin line between Linux support and web hosting support but if a company is offering fully managed servers they should set everything up for you as required imo.
It's an impossible question to answer in regard to who has the best Linux support, this is something you will not know until you use the provider and judge for yourself.

I agree with what you say about learning Linux first and web hosting second, most web hosting is managed by a few clicks of a control panel these days but understanding of Linux fundamentals is far more important for a support team.

Hope this helps. :)

Haven't used them myself but some of my Centmin Mod users use bigscoots.com managed hosting. I have checked their web site and saw only whm/cpanel. But then those users have said, they will on request install alternatives if you don't want cpanel/whm. They even help customers install my Centmin Mod LEMP stack installer.

And it's apparent now that bigscoots.com themselves use my Centmin Mod LEMP stack for their company web site's server ! So understandably they have the know-how for Centmin Mod LEMP install and usage and are willing to as managed hosts go beyond just offering up cpanel/whm like most managed hosts do :) I do know a hand full of web hosts who use Centmin Mod LEMP stack for their private usage/evaulation while still offering cpanel/whm to their customers. But most managed hosts offer up cpanel/whm.

Code:
curl -I https://www.bigscoots.com/
HTTP/2 200
server: nginx
date: Fri, 20 Jan 2017 21:35:15 GMT
content-type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
vary: Accept-Encoding
x-powered-by: centminmod
x-content-type-options: nosniff
x-frame-options: DENY
not sure if they have specific skill set and your intended web apps. So probably worth testing their sales support and contacting them and asking :)
