Can web hosting providers send their customers to others?

I contacted some hosting providers but they sent or recommended me to other hosting providers because they didn't provide such services that I wanted or not enough conditions to provide my custom requests. Just curious, do web hostsing providers collaborate together or can they send their customers to others if they can not provide which customers want?

I have made some of my best business connections in the industry through collaboration with others hosts. Sometimes, all it takes is to direct a customer to another host and drop that host a message (especially if it is a smaller host, likely your message will reach their management :) ), you can form a partnership.

For examples
I asked to have a VPS with Plesk are installed on my hosting with best support but they're only providing VPS with cPanel.
I asked to have a VPS but they are only providing dedicated server offers.

or custom configurations but some will not provide.

They could have some sort of business partnership with another firm that provides services they do not.

It is also possible the company you had refer you simply wanted to make a good impression upon the company they referred you to. While the hosting market is vast and saturated, it is also a tight niche community for owners and having a good reputation among providers can really help you out.

As they say "you can't cater to everyone", well you can, but that's when things can go wrong. Sometimes it's just best to refer them to someone else. That's good business.

I think that is a great business practice. It is good of a host to acknowledge their limitations and send you to someone who can meet your n eds. As far as their relationship, they may have a affiliate relationship, so they may make a little money sending clients their way.

Yep usually if a host cannot provide what a client needs trust and believe they can refer you to someone who can. Strong host know what they can offer and what other host offer at the end of the day its all about the customers.
