Happy Holidays,

I am curious, why as a provider did you enter the VPS market? What did you bring to the table that few others (if anyone) offered?

I am not a hosting provider but to be honest, VPS market is really a potential one and attracting more customers more than others, when I have a decent budget from $25 to $45, I could have a good VPS plan with high specs and good features for my websites.I think it is one of reasons why many providers are jumping into this market.

It's an essential product to sell, you can get a fully managed server for around $25 a month and most people have no problem paying this and prefer it compared to a $5 shared hosting account. Shared and reseller hosting is a dying business and in the future will take the form of droplet style VPS solutions but I think this is a good number of years away.

I think most providers bring more or less the same services "to the table" as you put it, but it's the support and quality of service that makes the difference.

Simply put, supply and demand. I noticed many providers overselling OpenVZ giving it a bad name and so I added it to show it is possible to get just as good a service (if not better) than you can with Shared, KVM/Xen or dedicated server when the VPS node is managed properly. Our OpenVZ node offers better performance than most providers offering KVM/Xen which platforms can be oversold too, just not as easy.

I like how with OpenVZ when kernelcare installed it protects kernel on the node plus all VMs hosted on it. A lot of providers running KVM have users who don't update their kernels properly etc causing all sorts of problems. Offering OpenVZ is perfect for managed and unmanaged customers in terms of security in that sense.
