Maximum domain name length?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what's the maximum length (in characters) for a domain name that I can buy on the intenet?

Let's exclude the http://www.

The maximum length for the domain name is 63 characters. And the full domain (subdomain, domain name and Top-Level domain) can be up to 255 octets which is about 253 characters.

Are you planning on registering a long domain name that might be close to a limit?

If you are then I would advise against it as there are several good reasons not to but the main one is that the longer the domain name then the more likely a person is to make a typo and not reach your site.

The length of domain name is 63 octets. Domain names cannot have more than 63 characters, not including .AG, .COM.AG, .NET.AG, .ORG.AG, .EDU.AG, .GOV.AG, ETC.
