G+ and search?

A G+ profile will only show in search results for you if you have that person as one of your followers and you searched something that is related to what they have posted.

Example being if that person has posted something about funny albino kittens and you searched something about funny albino kittens then it would show you their profile/post in your search results.

But that would only happen if you are signed in you your G+ account at the time and you have them as a follower (circle).

I wouldn't worry about ranking with G+ in this sense. As has already been mentioned, you'd need to be following the person to see their content appear in search.

G+ is a Google asset (duhhh) which means it has value, despite the fact that few people use it for anything other than coercing crawlers into scanning content pages. When you write something new, blast it out on G+ - it'll signal Google to take a closer look at your new release, since G+ is crawled daily.
