Where can I upload PDFs that Google will crawl? I don't want to host them direct on my server, I want Google to crawl them on other IP addresses. Are there places where filetypes like .pdf can be indexed and crawled?

Depends on the site, some are cloaked or nofollow. Obviously, the doc sharing sites would be the first place to start.

Why wouldn't you want them on your own site? That should be the first place, so your site gets credit for the content.

Unless you have a good reason.

Yes, PDFs are indexed by Google. They started doing this since 2001. Upload your PDF file on Google Docs and wait until they're crawled. PDFs can even rank first. Remember that links from PDFs aren't possible to be made nofollow.

Not true Sam! Many doc upload sites will no follow the links in the PDF once its uploaded.

Scribd do for example and they're one of the biggest.

Example doc I uploaded a while ago to Scribd, all links are no followed.

But some are not nofollow. Just do a Google search for "do follow doc sharing sites".

I will recommend you upload on the blogs sites like Blogspot, WordPress & Tumblr & index from that website when you don't wanna to upload on your own domain.
