Is it even worth it to create a blog at this time, post original content, topics you like and once using internet marketing to increase traffic for them and generate revenue from it (such as affiliates, ads, etc)?
Are there any alternatives to blogs?

Blogs are really a good way to start. I personally manage Internet marketing blog and find it more profitable to any other online business. If you are able to write quality content on regular basis and increase your blog readership than blogs works great.

I still think they are worth it. But it really depends on how you approach it.

If you are thinking of just launching a blog and posting about whatever topic strikes your fancy at the moment, then no I don't think it is worth it at least not for monetary reasons. You won't make any money doing that unless you are incredibly interesting (and 99.999% of people aren't - or at least can't write interesting material that way).

If you are thinking of launching a niche blog that you know absolutely nothing about and aren't really that interested in, then I think it is a bad idea too. It could work if you are experienced enough. If you don't have many years of experience though, I doubt it will work for you. At least not as a way to make serious money.

If you are launching a blog because you have identified a need in the market somewhere and you are using that blog to fulfill that need, then I think you are onto something and it could very well be worthwhile. It still depends on what the topic is and how you intend to monetize it. But, there is income potential there if you choose the right problem to help people solve and you choose a good monetization method for that particular problem.

Unfortunately, there are many variables involved. And some of those variables can break your business model if you get one of them wrong. That's why it isn't very common to see someone making big money with a blog.

Blogs are worth when the content you create makes your readers feel to come again to view the next post. When this happens u are successful , don't write for money, let people like what u write.

I think the old rules still apply. You need to keep the content in a niche topic, write plenty of quality, unique content and make it interesting for your readers. Images is the new thing and apparently using eye-catching images on posts is very effective. I'm trying on my new blog.

Blogs are worth more than just the blog itself. You have to keep in mind that having a blog forces you to practice your writing which leads to developing better content creation skills. As you know, content is still very important and knowing what to create online can only come with practice.

Just don't get complacent and end up lazy blogging. Once that happens, a blog is no longer worth doing...

You are right, a blog does force you to practice and improve your writing skills. When I first started my blog it used to take me a lot longer to write posts and they are not as good as my more recent posts. There is such a difference that it may seem like someone else wrote the latest posts but it has been me all along and I have just improved.

Very good points and I agree with them but I have seen some blogs that are a couple of years old with the same writer that never improved. I think that a willingness to improve has to go along with the effort.

This is something that many bloggers wind up falling into. Just write something quick and slap it up seems to be the mentality of some.

I like this thread/video from Kevin Muldoon called Blogging is Dead

It sounds like more and more have to introduce video/audio now as more people prefer that over reading long written text.

I'd say I'm

70/60% Written
30-40% Video/Audio

depending on mood, etc.

It depends on the content if your blog doesn't have good content then it also likes other sites or forums, it will not have good traffic and not worth it.

If you're struggling to generate leads or close deals, a business blog won't be a one-stop solution to all your marketing woes. But it can be beneficial to you even if only a handful of people are reading your content.

Blog is really a good way but you should think about something unique. If you copy contents from other website, you will not get good visitor & thus less revenue !

What blogs are you referring to here?

Is it web 2.0 or a proper blog?

As a start one does not even need a blog to get started with affiliate marketing, you can always have you direct link shortened by using a url shortener and promote it on niche relevant groups.

I've been earning with my blogs for quite a while and I do enjoy creating the content that people read and sometimes do affiliate marketing for additional revenue. If you have the right resources to learn blogging then you can monetize your efforts.

Adblockers are eating up the revenue. So unless you're monetizing with the affiliate links. I'd not recommend using the blogs or any written content medium as an option. I'd say it's worth getting into Video and the Audio content too. But make sure to use some form of monetization option. You won't last if you continue to create content for free. Because patreon and other service won't get you far ahead as very few percent of people donate. And that's not a good method for the monetization.

Blog is similar to your personal journal. You post articles on various topics (or may be one topic), you monetize through network ads or affiliate ads, you may even sell your own products and services and make money. However, there is a lot of competition out there and it is really hard to make moneyb through blogging, unless you are celebrity sort.
A best alternative is an online magazine or newspaper. Instead of blog, create an online magazine or newspaper, I see a great potential on this arena. I have recently set up an online newspaper and I alreadt see good response.
