Sometimes I check some domain names I want to buy and to start new sites with it but they are booked by others. So you guys will do what if the domain you want is not available? leave your ideas/niches you choose and trying a new way with a new and easier domain name or what is your way?

Hi Emilio,
I have rarely not been able to find a domain name that suits a purpose.

I use this software tool to find domain names, and it always performs for me.

You just need to be a bit creative when you get stuck.

I have a few domains that are not .com, but not many. I usually insist on .com too.

Just chuck in a few keywords and keep adding your ideas until you find something.

cheers, Mal.

Hi Emilio,

Sometimes finding the right domain name can be a hard task. However, don't give up and just do some research and looking at other sites in the same field/niche, and that can give you some ideas as well. One thing that you can also do is look at a thesaurus website for other words with the same meaning of a name in the domain that you like, but is taken. As an example, if you are looking for a domain and wanted "FastTechSupport.com" but it's taken, you can look on a site like thesaurus.com and find other words that mean the same thing as words in the domain. Perhaps change "Fast" to "Speedy", "Prompt", etc.

You can also try some of the free domain name generator sites. Most are a complete joke and waste of time, but one that I have found useful at times is impossibility.org. It lets you use your words and will generate some domains that are available to register for you. It won't always give you exactly what you want, but it's also good for helping to inspire ideas that might lead to you coming up with one you like.

If you aren't looking for anything specific, you can also try 123finder.com. I have used it in the past but usually only looking for short available domains in certain extensions.

Good luck! :)

Depends if the niche is the domain name, then you're stuck. If not, then there are always other combinations or creative ideas. Some people like to use a foreign language word for that niche--makes you sound "cool" somehow. :)

If you definitely want the .com but it's taken. There are some things you can do to "secure" it.

The first is to do a whois on that domain and then find the owners contact details and ask them if they want to sell it.

That would only really apply if the domain is being parked. Established sites you probably have no chance unless you offer a lot for it.

Even parked domains the owner wont be willing to let it go for something unless its a pretty price and decent offer.

It depends how much you want that domain.

If you absolutely cannot get the .com your next choice is to go with a .net or .org or even something else completely.

Failing that, change the domain you want so its similar but not the same.

Simple, it's simple! "Forget about it" yeah, it's that simple. Change your brand name, company name and choose a new domain that is available. silly right? but that's the only way.

The only thing you can do is to buy it from its existing owner.

Either buy it from the owner or use a different TLD or change the name completely.

Correct, or another way is you can use the variant of your domain such as adding words "hot", "cool", "247", "360"...at the begin or end of the domain. Then your name will have the name "example360.com", "examplehot.com"...or sth like that.

If someone decides to do this then they need to take certain things into consideration before making that commitment.

First, there is traffic leakage potential. Meaning that if you have "greatdomain.tld" many people will by default type in "greatdomain.com". It's not always that important to most people but it is something to consider. You could be potentially loosing a lot of traffic to the .com version of the domain name.

Another thing is the fact that many people don't realize that all these crazy new extensions are actually REAL extensions. Some people will see something like "myweb.host" and type "mywebhost.com" because they are so used to typing that by default.

I am not saying it's a bad idea, just that people need to think about these things. I have been in the domain investing/owning world for over 20 years and you would be surprised, perhaps, at how people do things by instinct.

There is also other minor facts to think about like renewal costs for the other TLD's and that some are quite high.

Just some key things for people to consider.

If they are not worried about these kind of things then some of the new TLD's still have many, many available domains that can be had for registration cost only! ;)

These're also such a nice alternative to choice, I see that the extension ".web" is releasing, so we can choose myhost.web or myforum.web,...

You can always use the same name but with a different extension. However, though, the name could confuse people and the only way to solve the dilemma would be by emphasizing the extension. For instance, HostingForum.club would not be called "Hosting Forum", but rather, "HostingForum.club".

Yeah, even if someone is advertising using the style I mentioned, that's always a big threat. That's one big reason anything other than a .com might be a serious danger, as far as marketing is concerned.

Try to think a better domain name with very convincing terminologies where in viewers would be attract to. The other way is to switch to a new domain extension to avoid duplicate domain name from other websites.

Either you have a big pull on that domain so that buying it will still be beneficial for you. But if not, then just try other extensions. Or get creative with your name so that you can stick with .com.

Just come up with a new name for your business or company. A creative mind should have no problem doing this. Also before you start a new business, you really should check and make sure the name you want isn't already taken. Rather than waiting until you come up with a name and then finding out it's taken afterwards. Thus leading to disappointment. If you're strongly considering a name, check its availability before settling on it.

Hi Emilio! There are tons of ways to get a domain name that will suit your website you are creating and if that name is already taken by others it is also a simple way to address it. No need to buy that domain name if they sell it to you in a higher amount. Here is one way you can do if somebody already owns that name or they already have booked it in the registry. 1) go to www.m-w.com and type the name you want and look for its synonyms, 2) add your nickname in the beginning or the end of the name, 3) reverse it, then on the about section of your site tell them why the name is like mysteriously selected like that. and it will now depend on how your admin will do to make it know on the world wide web. And lastly let me help you give name suggestions, pm me out that is just for free. :icon_rock:

If the same domain name is not available then you can check for the other similar and catchy domain names. While choosing them, make sure those will clarify the purpose of your website. You can find the synonymous for the same domain name. If you are going to use the site for local business then you can choose the name in your local language. It will be more beneficial.

If you want the same name then you will need to contact the current domain registrar and will need to ask them for sale. If they are ready to sale it to you then it will be in higher cost. So better is to go with the other domain name with the same meaning.

Yeah i agree to you bro. This is the only way you can do unless you tell the domain owner to change his website name so you can replace him to the domain name you want to be yours but thats impossible to happen. Forget about it move on and try something unique or try the domain name with different extension that would be a great solution if you do not want to change the name you provided.

If it is not available choose another one. That is the very logic that you will do. That is just very easy. No need to stick with it if it is not available. You should have to consider the call of time. Whenever it is not available you need to select another one.

This also happened to me.I have this name on my mind which I really.I was so excited to buy this domain name only to get disappointed at the end because it was no longer available. so I ended up changing everything. :D

There is nothing you can do about it and your only option is to get a new one. :)
