I had been contemplating for a year now about doing a blog with my forum.....

Is the idea better to use a separate domain(I own like 10 lmao) OR use the blog as a subdomain?

I heard blogs can help with traffic and what not.

My reasoning for using a separate domain as to let the forum be the forum itself...it's own identity and let it stand as its own without people needing to do go to a separate domain.

The blog would of course have its own name/identity as well so those who want the blog can have their area specifically for them without my forum.

But idk if it is good or not to do it this way :)

Wither you add the blog to your forum site, or create the blog as a stand alone site is completely up to you.

There are pros and cons both ways. A blog can help bring more traffic to your forum, but it could also just add more congestion to your site.

Having them together may make it a lot easier to get the blog started, but it will take more effort to run both separately.

If separate, you would need a new design, layout, logo, etc, but if monetized well, would give you a separate income source.

Posts on blogs are just webpages. They have no magic powers for bringing in more traffic. If you are adding a blog just because you think you will get more traffic that way, do not do it. Waste of time. Just add the content into the forum instead.

If you want to add a blog because you feel it makes more sense for your users to find certain content from you, then go for it.

Hello SEOPub

If a post on a blog is on a topic of interest and relevant to a niche market, it will bring traffic.

If for example you write a post on the side effects of diet pills and use an appropriate image, you can use the image to promote that post on social media in the weight loss niche and link back to your blog post. The result = traffic.

The example above may be described as creating 'Quality Content'. Consistent posting of quality content also results in better search engine ranking over time.

You clearly missed my point. You can do that with any webpage. It does not have to be within a "blog". The OP could do the same thing with a new post in his forum.

What I am saying is that blogs have no magic powers for bringing in traffic over any other webpage.

There is a big misconception out there that "Google loves blogs". That is total BS.

I was thinking the same thing! As i have a vbulletin based script and wanted to somehow to add a subdomain so i can add videos to drive traffic! So
will it be like:
videos.mydomainforum.com
or
mydomainforum.com/videos
then to post lots of videos from youtube on my blog, maybe and thing it will bring more traffic to my few months old forum!
My niche is related to "pets" and i am having little hard time getting people to signup.

Thanks.
