Best video format for YouTube?

I'm wondering what is the best video format to upload to YouTube after I created first videos and preparing to upload them to youtube.
I'm often publishing video as mp4 format, it's best format video file?

It's not just mp4 alone. There are other settings that you need to do in order to get a video uploaded and it remains sharp and clear.

Below are the video formats supported by YouTube.

MP4 (a multimedia container format standard specified as a part of MPEG-4)
FLV (Flash Video, a kind of video format )
AVI (Audio Video Interleaved,a kind of video format)
MOV (the QuickTime multimedia file format)
3GP (a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project for 3G UMTS multimedia services.)
MKV (an free container format that holds an unlimited number of video, audio, picture, or subtitle tracks in one file)
MPEG (the Moving Picture Experts Group, a kind of video format)
WMV (Windows Media Video)
SWF (Shockwave Flash)

MP4 formats are supported by YouTube. Videos are recommended to be embedded in MPEG-4 format and file extensions used on files that contain data in the *.mp4 format.

I think you should upload videos on different format. Because a lot of people are using YouTube from mobile. So you need to upload MP4, FLV, 3GP all kinds videos.

There's a lot of video format that can be uploaded in youtube but it all depends in the software that your using. There are software's that can create output files that suits the user environment. For example a video content can be use as a site video or a youtube video, the software i use creates the best format depending of what platform it will be used for. The best part of it is it's free...I use VSDC

But, I always used to upload MP4 format files with resolution:- 1280 x 720 (16x9 HD) and 640 x 480 (4:3 SD)

The most popular video format the people used is the MP4 format. It is the most common video for us and it is the most recommended format in creating or posting videos in some video platforms. I think it is the most advisable format when posting in youtube. But there are so many video formats that youtube supports such as AVI, MOV, FLV, WMV, MPEG4, and so many more.
