Dropshipping Inexpensive Jewelry

I am not looking to make a huge amount of money using dropshipping right from the get-go, but I would of course at least like to profit. I'm hoping to make at least a couple hundred a month to start, but do have my little dreams of growing and branching out

The niche I'm leaning towards is fashion accessories sold for set low prices that my customers can rely on, an example would be all accessories being sold for $5, $10, or $15 with no in-betweens. With products selling for such low prices, would it even be possible for me to make reasonable profits with dropshipping?

I'd mostly like to know if anyone here is seeing success while using dropshipping and if there are any tips and tricks they'd feel comfortable sharing. I'm definitely willing to put in the work and the research, but I'd love advice from you experienced folks to help me along the way.

This might point you in the right direction but by no means am I an expert on dropshipping or product sales. That being said;

What you want to do is find suppliers from which to purchase items in bulk. Most companies have a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity). This will require an upfront investment though and extensive research into what item sells and what doesn't.

Look around for wholesalers and purchase an item in bulk and send it to Amazon.

For example;

Amazon is one of the largest dropshippers out their with their FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) service. You don't have to start with a website for selling these types of products. I suggest try out Amazon or eBay or both.

What you need is a name/brand to sell under. But while your at it you might as well find a name which is also available as a domain.

I would start there, make some sales under sites such as Amazon, eBay, Shopify, or w/e is out there to use. They have a huge client base actively searching for products. After a while, then go into building an ecommerce website for selling your items.

A friend of Hipcat and I does this.

She orders accessories in BULK, and sells them privately through friends, and flea markets. She does exceptionally well! She also takes orders for things she doesn't have in stock, but can order right away, plus she always welcomes new suggestions for products to purchase in the future.

Another aspect of this, if you are really outgoing, is going door to door with a homemade catalog for the products you currently have on hand and the others you can order.

I've thought about doing this as well, but right now neither of us have the time or energy!

Thank you, Inquestor! I am busily trying to figure out a good business/domain name, and am actively Googling everything I come up with to make sure it's not already being used. Thank you for pointing me in the Amazon.com direction. I am going to start looking into it ASAP. I like the idea of starting there where they already have traffic before starting my own little independent store.

I felt excited as I read your reponse! Your friend sounds like she does something very similar to what I am wanting to do! We have a local Art in the Park here every year and I am considering opening up my own jewelry stand there for the few days it runs if I make enough profits leading up to the event. I love the idea of taking orders for things I don't have in stock and dropshipping them to the requesting customer. Although I will want to test out every product I will be selling for myself first. Especially when it comes to jewelry, I don't want it to fall apart really easily and create a bad reputation for myself ...and I'm very big on the idea of taking suggestions for things my customers would like to see in my store. I'm thinking anything that can be considered a fashion accessory may be an option...

I do expect this to take a lot of work if I am going to get anywhere, but I am the type of person who likes to be kept busy and I am excited for the challenge.
