Could Google give small websites any opportunities to get high rankings?

I'm wondering that small websites can have opportunities to get rankings higher large websites?

For example, while I was searching and checking my keywords on google search then almost top keywords on first page google always come from big websites because they have good content, more articles (thousands)..etc. So, with small websites only some articles on their websites, when will they get on first page google search results??

Could Google give small websites any opportunities to get high rankings?

What is your thought about that?

Big companies might have big budgets to spend on their websites, but they can't create a great, relevant page for every keyword phrase related to their industry, and that leaves windows of opportunity for small businesses, even in competitive industries. To be able to take advantage of those opportunities they need to create high quality content (that's better than the content currently on the 1st page) which is very closely related to the keywords they want to target.

Hi Max,

For sure.... For me its about knowing which battles are worth fighting for and which ones to leave - perhaps for another day when your website has grown.... For example I wouldn't target the keywords "payday loan", "weight loss" straight off the bat... I would target the long tail keywords - the lower hanging fruit first and build it up from there....

In addition I would pay careful attention to G's hummingbird... Its a massive change to G's algo... In sum your website needs to focus on content/topics which are semantically related with use of internal link building using a silo approach... This really gets G's crawlers excited with it building a much deeper understanding of your website....

Beyond that I would say the most important thing these days is your CTR and bounce rates.... Its a huge factor and its a way for G to determine if your website is worthy of increased rankings... So for example a user searches for a term and comes across your site on the serps... If they exit your site and return to the serps and click on other results - then G is taking note that your site may not be the best one for that keyword....

In addition G's algo is still centered on backlinks regardless of voiced opinions re: social which has some contributions... But its the right type of backlinks, the anchor text profile of your backlinks and the velocity of creating links... My rule of thumb is to keep commercial anchors less then 20% with long tail derivative in order to keep under G's penguin and for the velocity of creation to be ~10% or less when compared to your monthly traffic stats... As G has a rough idea of traffic on your site and hence too many backlinks to a site which gets no traffic on the serps is an obvious footprint that your gaming the serps.... With backlinks these need to come from authority sites which have high trust factors e.g. Moz DA, Majestic CF/TF etc being some...

In my opinion G does give small websites the opportunities... but as I mentioned its all to do with approach.... Target the low hanging fruit and build it up from there....

Elcidofaguy just made an important point, start with the keywords that will be easy to rank for in your niche then grow from there. If your competition has a lot of content then you need to start creating good quality content for your site as well.

Blog at least 2 times a day and by the end of 30 days your rankings will improve. But make sure you're posts (both old and new) are getting traffic especially the ones that are improving in rankings.

And if you're using social media, you have a higher chance of reaching more people if you post twice or more per day.

There is nothing like any only old website would be seen or no opportunities are there are new born website. Chances as per your word will only increase with credibility, authority, social presence and visibility. Once Google has started recognizing any website that keeps on updating or doing promotions (spending budgets with campaign).

I think you might be getting it wrong, its not about the quantity of the content but it about quality and for that reason, there are many factors which Google bass on to rank your webpage just like; the time visitors spend on your site, a number of returning visitors and the quality of the links you have on your page. You can have a webpage with 500 words and rank well more than a webpage with 10,000 words. You just need to know what you have to do.

It doesn't matter small or big, at the end of the day quality of the works matters. Even a big company without proper optimization may hit in the rankings. So only quality of works helps in this field. If website is small well do best optimization for that, by quality of contents and backlinks it will surely beat bigger ones if your work is good.

All good information here. The one thing I would suggest would be to have a short video or two on your website. This will help you with keeping your bounce rate low, as it would be engaging your potential clients.

:) Can you tell us what kind of website you have? Is it a one page site? Or does it have multiple pages?
:) Do you have a blog connected to it? Are you familiar with different blogging sites (WordPress, blogger, etc)?
:) Are you familiar with social media and what it can do for your website?
:) Is your business a local business with a website and you're looking to rank within your area? Or are you working online to gain a worldwide audience?

yeah I read threads about video marketing you showed in post above. why you think it keeps bounce rate low?

I have more websites :) on more industries like art(paintings) mobile phones (blog), question and answers cms..etc..Of course they're websites having multiple pages. I couldn't do or discuss about SEO if I only have one page website.

For sure...I am very familiar with social media, not only it's bringing good traffic but improving my brand name daily. Worldwide audience that's goal that I'm targeting, no one wants to act their business just one small place :buba:

As I had explained in the threads provided (which what Eric had said), having videos on your site, help your visitors stay on the site longer. If the videos aren't too long and well put together, your visitors will watch the videos to get a better understanding for what you're product is, then want to continue reading your content.

High bounce rate equals short stays, uninterested Visitors, which means little or no income.
Low bounce rate equals longer stays, interested and curious visitors, which results in possibly getting better ranks in search engine traffic, therefore resulting in more income.

To promote small business website you have to focus on SMO as well as Video promotion to get traffic on your site. Every sites are not ranked at a good position but they get high business sale.
