How Important is the UI of a Website or Forum?

We've all seen the simple phpBB forums and are turned off instantly by the solid colors and generic look then you sometimes see these other forums which have a beautiful interface with easy use. However, is it really needed to have your website or forum looking spectacular if your product isn't bringing the same value? Can a UI of a website for a product really change the price and professionalism of the item? I mean, yes, we want professional looking websites for the product we have to sell but does it actually matter when it comes to quality?

of course UI is vital part of webdesign or internet marketing. It is simply a wrapper of your product the more attractive wrapper/packaging of product is the more user hits to your website and indirectly traffic will increase on your site.

There are other ways also to increase the traffic on website but as this is front end so you have to have look after Usability and UI.
