DNS is a domain name resolution system that was invented in 1984 for the Internet, only one system that allows setting up a correspondence between IP address and domain name. Or it can be understood that DNS on the Internet will translate the domain name that users type into the IP address.
IP address consists of 4 groups of numbers separated by dots. For example, if you type your site example.com, DNS will resolve and return the results with the IP range 107.62.128.161.
With the video illustrated below by GoDaddy, I believe you will easily figure out what DNS is and how it works.

How does DNS work?

  • Each service provider operates and maintains its DNS server.
  • INTERNIC (Internet Network Information Center) is responsible for monitoring the domain names and the corresponding DNS servers.
  • DNS can query other DNS servers when requested from outside.

How to use DNS
Since DNS is updated, the response varies depending on the network connection from the client to the server, so you should consider choosing the DNS server that best suits your intended use. In my experience, CloudFlare is a very good intermediate DNS. You should use.

Thank goodness we have it really, I know a lot of people who would never remember the numbers to input their email or facebook :p Though DNS can be a pain when you need to do a domain name update, as the update can take a little while for different people.

DNS is meant to manage the names of public websites and internet domains. It controls your domain name`s website and email settings.

Short working of DNS server can be sentenced as follows When a visitor goes to your domain then DNS settings will control which server it will reach out to. It matches the name of website to the address of the same website.

DNS is actually Domain Name Service started delivered with Operating Systems long back with industry demand. This is developed to make addresses human readable as it was difficult to remember IP with respect to name. This service translates IP to name and name to IP (vice-versa).

The server which provides this service is called DNS Servers. There are two main concepts inside it that are forward lookup and reverse lookup that,s how it converts IP to Name and Name to IP.

These works on Client-Server Architecture and all individual machines on networks or on the internet you can say like DNS Client. All DNS clients have the provision of resolve.conf file to serve this purpose on the OS level.

An IP address Version 4 is 32-bit address divided into 4 octets like XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX which is having a limit on the number of IP so IP V6 128-bit IP address system to overcome with the limitation of IP V4 is already introduced long back but yet not in use.

So in the short server which provides domain name service is called Domain Name Server. Configuration of DNS servers requires a lot of knowledge and mostly done by highly efficient security professionals only especially Security Teams deploy DNS servers for their organizations to keep it secure from any outside threat and put lot of security provisions to stop hacking etc.

I hope it will clear basic only if you want to have the expertise in DNS server you need to read more and more and adopt network security training and many more .
