A DNS entry for “mydomain.com” already exists. You must remove this DNS entry from this server?

When I create a new account for a domain in my WHM I got this notice and I could not add the website

A DNS entry for “mydomain.com” already exists. You must remove this DNS entry from this server or all servers in the DNS cluster to proceed.

mydomain is the domain I used to create dns for this server. for example ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com

How to fix this?

Thanks

Hello David,

Happy to try to help.

Would you happen to have root access to the server?

If you have root access please try the following command in the terminal/CLI "whodat [Insert Domain Here only]" The whodat command will let you know where the domain name is being held.

Here is an example of using the command "whodat" and the result.

1.
whodat1.PNG

2.
whodat2.PNG

The command will provide you with the location for this domain.

Another thing you can do is check in WHM if you have access to it and look for the page "Delete a DNS Zone" here you can put in the domain in question and terminate the zone for that domain. After this you should be able to create a new cPanel with the same domain name.

Let me know if you have any questions. I will try to reply here as soon as possible.

and terminate the zone for that domain.
I am not sure this will work or it can be failed and make server down? I have more other domain names are hosting under this server thus I am afraid If I change or delete a dns record as notice then it can make other domain names fail to load?

Did you manage to get this resolved?

If this domain is also used as your nameservers domain, you may need to double checked whether the nameservers subdomains have their own DNS zones before terminating the zone for the main domain.
