I've been using Photoshop my whole life and it's not bad at all but all of my friends told me to switch to Adobe Illustrator, the reason why they want me to switch is because they said that it focus more on design and also the Photoshop is a pixel based.

If the context is about logo desiging i prefer to use AI adobe illustrator. Photoshop is pixels and it more for photo editing while AI is a kind of vector which is perfect to make a logo.

My co-worker is a sales staff and is making advertisements and flyers. She uses Photoshop for the company to use. Based from her, its best for creating anything. However, if you're really intrigues about it, why not try it? You can be the best judge for that.

Hello gelotologist! I understand that switching to differrent platform in creating designs or logo is really hard since you will not be very accustomed to the locations of the tools and the shortcuts that you have memorized to create fabulously.

And its okay to try out some other applications that your friends told you to use because you will be able to experiment and find out what they are saying is better.

As for my suggestion to you and to all who are reading this thread that it might be useful even just a little, creating designs for business for you or for a client is very fullfilling. Because you will see what you have created have been use and have change the life of someone or somebody.

I design using lots of platforms and found out which one will be much better for a certain project. First I use Aldus PageMaker and Print Artist, after sometime I use Corel Draw, Corel Photopaint, then afterwards Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher. If there is an effect I I can't do or don't know in Adobe Photoshop, I'll do it in Corel Photopaint then vice-versa if I need vector before I turned it to a jpg I will use Corel Draw or Publisher. So it is better for you to know something about other platforms instead of just one.

For logo it's better to use Adobe Illustrator because it's easy when you use this software making logo for your business. When it comes to design for your business try to use Photoshop, create advertising design or what your business need.

I'm not an expert but you should know first your objective or output of your design because as far as i'm concern their difference is what makes them usefull in some aspects. If you want to make some quality design then maybe in my opinion use both. Using both software may results in some high quality designs!

i think you choose them both try to make design using the photoshop first then paste it to AI and manipulate the design or logo you created or vice versa.. but if you didn't know how to use AI it is better to learn it now, basically AI has so many design just for the logo but photoshop i think is more than AI.

Illustrator is a vector base graphic design software using Illustrator means your logo will be a vector object which is not part of a bitmap, when designing user interfaces, Illustrator can provide many advantages that Photoshop cannot. Firstly, using Illustrator here makes the job a lot faster - there's the obvious resizing points. Illustrator is also great for creating reusable components. Using the symbols panel in Illustrator, you can create a library of icons and form elements that can be reused and manipulated many times over.

While both programs here 'can' create a logo, you need to think about maintainability and uses of your logo. While its initial sizes may be predefined a logo needs to be resized and reshaped accordingly as it's likely to be used many times on many different materials.

A bitmap graphic created in Photoshop cannot be resized without pixilation or loss of quality. With that in mind, using Illustrator means your logo will be a vector object which is not part of a bitmap. Meaning it can be reshaped and resized while retaining all of its quality. Photoshop does have a place in logo design but for the most part, Illustrator should always be your first choice.

Although you can design a logo using Photoshop as easily as Illustrator, I believe, illustrator is still best for designing and creating logos.
Since Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics program, the output can be enlarged without being pixelated. This is important so the logo can be used for printing no matter how large the print output is.
I hope this helps.

You can use the Photoshop too, it do have the lots of option too, the professional logos are more easy to create in Photoshop. Illustrator you can use for the easy logos. The logs will get split in the pixel in the Photoshop but in the Illustrator, it will not get split in the pixel, no matter how large the image is.

So it's up to you, which tool you would like to use.

I prefer you'd stick to your use of Adobe Photoshop, you've used it for a quite now. It could be hard for you to adjust yourself in determining the tools you'll need for the specific changes you want to make for your logos. Most of us graphic artists here in our company uses Adobe Photoshop and our costumers really love the outcome of our work. But it's not bad to try something new, I'm just giving my opinion here. :)

I agree with regulusXted. But it is good also to try the AI. It takes time to make yourself comfortable using other tools. ;)

These two softwares are very well for making designs, but if you want to design logo and give it a unique look then definitely you've to use illustrator, illustrator have some unique feature what dont have in Photoshop. So for creating logo design for business purpose Illustrator works better than photoshop.
