I recently bought a new domain name and plan installing WordPress on it. But, I became confused when I tried to point the name to my hosting account(new account too). Though, I've read up some tutorials on the web, but still not understanding the whole process.

I need easy to follow guide from the experts here?

Where did you buy the domain and the webspace?

The process is very easy. If you have ordered the domain name same as of your hosting service name then follow the below steps for associating it with your domain -

1. Contact your hosting provider and ask them to provide the nameservers OR A record or CNAME record associated with your hosting service.
2. Once you will get it then contact domain registrar of your domain and ask them to point your domain to provided DNS records by the hosting provider.
3. After adding the DNS records, there will be downtime of 4 to 8 hours for DNS propagation. Once DNS will get propagate over the internet then your website will start working.

When you order a hosting plan and your order is confirmed, the hosting company will send you an email with some important information. One of these is the nameserver of your hosting company. Actually, it's probably a number of nameservers. They look something like name.xx.xx.xx.xx. The name is optional. The "x" are numbers which tell a browser where to find the hosting structure.

Now, go to where you bought your domain name. There will be something called nameserver. Add or edit as needed. Put in the information you got from your hosting company. Then wait. Some domain registrars are very fast. Some are slower. However, after 24 hours, you should be able to find your website by typing the name in your browser address bar.

If that doesn't work, ask your hosting company. They will be able to guide you.
